Where Do You Stand: Lying to Your Friends About Your Sex Life

I'm all for a little embellishing when it comes to chatting about what happens in the bedroom, but how do you feel about outright lying? Are there times when it's appropriate to fib about what guy you've done it with, how often you and your man have sex, or how good it is? Have you ever felt the need to lie to your friends in order to impress them? Of course lying about such a private matter won't really hurt anyone, but tell me, where do you stand when it comes to lying to your friends about your sex life?

Dear Poll: Do You Open Your Eyes During Sex?

And since more than half of you — 65 percent to be exact — prefer to kiss with your eyes shut, I thought I'd ask you the same question in relation to making love. Like kissing, I think most people's initial reaction is to close their eyes, but seeing the way your partner looks in the heat of passion can make for an even deeper level of intimacy, not to mention making the sex all the more sensual! So do you keep your eyes open or closed while doing the deed?

But what you think is just a romantic mini road trip ends up being more than you bargained for. Parking off a one-lane, seldom-used road, you guys to try something totally new. Would it be worse if . . .

This: You decide to give sex in the car a try only to be interrupted mid-session by a tap on the window from a police officer? Apparently he happened to be passing by and wanted to make sure there wasn’t any car trouble.

Or . . .

That: In an attempt to be romantic, your boyfriend lays out blankets for you under a tree, but when it starts pouring, it turns out his keys are locked in the car? Not only do your cell phones not work, but it’s a four-mile walk to the nearest house.

Root For Your Guy's Sport Team — If They Win, So Do You (in the Bedroom)!

If you're in love with a sports fan, it's time to put on your baseball hat, football helmet, or basketball jersey. Do whatever it takes to root for your man's favorite team, because a recent poll discovered that 30 percent of US men think sex is better after their team wins. The same poll also found that 10 percent said they had bad sex after their team suffered a loss, and some guys don't even want to have sex at all because they're too stressed out and wired to be in the mood. One in four male sports fans said that they'd even voluntarily give up sex for a month if it guaranteed a major win at the end of the season, and 11 percent would give up sex "for however long it takes."

The point here is that women underestimate just how important sports are to a guy. The bond he has to a team probably started when he was a little, watching sports with his dad, so it's something he's been tied to for most of his life. His favorite team was his first love before he found you, so you can understand why his emotions are so closely connected to it. I know it's frustrating to see your guy spend hours upon hours each week staring at the TV, but it may help to show him a little sympathy when his team loses — he might find it very sexy when you yell at the TV too!

You Asked: How Do We Even the Playing Field?

Dear Sugar,

My boyfriend and I have been together for more than six months and although we are from drastically different backgrounds, we love each other very much. The problem we face stems from the fact that in our previous relationships, we were each the one who wore the pants and we were both the dominant ones. He is loud, outspoken, highly opinionated, and sometimes very arrogant — I am exactly the same way.

He expects me to be the perfect domesticated woman — cook, clean, and listen to every word he says without a complaint. I have tried to give in and meet him halfway by doing things I have never done before (like cooking and cleaning up after him), and I have toned down my attitude by listening more, but he does not feel the need to compromise as well. His responses always end with "because I am the man and you are the woman," and it infuriates me to be treated this way. If I anger him or say something wrong, he will retaliate by hurting me 10 times as much as I may have hurt him. All this is just to try and tame me or break me to become the woman he wants me to be. I know deep down this relationship has potential — we push each other to be the best we can be, we think alike, we are each other's best friend, and the sex is fantastic — but without any help from him, I'm starting to lose faith. How do I make him understand that this has to be a two-way effort? — Making an Effort Emma

What's the Deal With Depo SubQ Provera 104?

I'm sure many of you have a form of birth control that you love, and for those that swear by the Depo shot, you might be interested in learning that there's now a lower-hormone dose version called Depo SubQ Provera 104. It's still estrogen free, but instead of 400 mg of Medroxyprogesterone acetate (the hormone) per shot, it only contains 104mg (that's 31 percent less). You still need to go to your gynecologist every three months to get the shot, but it's just as effective as regular Depo-Provera. Even though it contains less hormones, it can still cause side effects such as weight gain, loss of calcium (which puts you at risk for osteoporosis), and irregular spotting. Also, a disadvantage with Depo SubQ Provera 104, just like with original Depo, is that it may take a while for you to become pregnant after discontinuing the shot (could take as much as one year or more).

This method would be great for someone looking for estrogen-free birth control, or for a woman who doesn't want to pop a pill every day. Unlike other methods of hormonal birth control, this isn't an option that's recommended for long-term use (more than two years), because of the loss of calcium it may cause. If this sounds like something you're interested in, I'd make an appointment to talk to your gyno.

A Do or a Don't: Food in the Bedroom

The texture and taste of food is often a sensual experience on its own, so you can see how it could spice things up in the bedroom as well. I’m talking about sexy foods like strawberries, whipped cream, honey, and chocolate! But then again, food is also messy, sticky, and sometimes just downright dirty, which are the parts of sex most people like least. I’m torn on this one, so let me ask you this: Do you think using food as foreplay is sexy? Or is it one of those things that’s a whole lot better in theory than in practice?

Where Do You Stand? Having Sex With Your Pet in the Room

I don't have a pet, so I thought about this until I was dogsitting for my friend. I know it's bizarre, but I thought to myself, "Wow, I wonder if she has sex with her pooch in the room?" It totally reminded me of that scene in Best in Show, where that couple takes their dog to a therapist because Beatrice, their Weimaraner, started showing signs of depression after seeing her owners having sex. Ha! Although I don't think it affects the animal much, I can only assume that some people get pretty weirded out about it. Are you? What do you think about having sex while your pet is in the room?

To see the scene, fast forward 30 seconds to "Hamilton and Meg Swan."

This condition is when the urinary meatus, the hole on the penis where urine and ejaculate pass, is abnormally positioned. It's usually just short of the tip of the penis but can be as extreme as being positioned underneath the penis or as far back as the scrotum. Hypospadias is actually fairly common, affecting approximately 1 in every 300 newborn boys (this condition is present at birth) so if you want to learn more about it, just

Do Tell: How Often Do You Have Sexual Dreams?

It's a rare but exciting moment when I wake up in the midst of a sexual dream. I've only had a handful, but let me tell you — they're almost as good as the real thing! We dream about sex because it's such a powerful human drive, and in our sleep we have no control over what surfaces in our subconscious minds. So you may have a sexual dream about your present lover, a past lover, someone you've had your eye on, or even a celebrity (did someone say Brad Pitt?). You may have surprising dreams about people you've never really thought of (like a co-worker), or dreams where your sexual identity has switched (maybe you're involved in a lesbian love fest when you're actually heterosexual). Or maybe, you'll be lucky enough to have a sexual dream where you actually climax. So tell me ladies, how often do you have tantalizing sexual dreams? Care to share any of the details?

You guys have the kind of chemistry you thought only existed in movies. But during a fairly animated and exciting romp, things seem to get out of hand. Would it be worse if . . .

This: In the excitement of the moment, you just couldn’t control yourself and you let an embarrassingly loud bit of gas pass? He laughs in a way that makes you feel like it’s at you not with you.

She even goes as far as saying "I was just so proud to show off my big old Jim McConaughey — and his gift" when talking about how he was taken out of their house in the buff!

The McConaughey's are clearly a free-spirited family, but I wonder how Matthew feels about his mom dishing all their family secrets? I know that I'd be pretty upset, not to mention embarrassed, but what about you? Even though what she's saying may be the truth, are some things, especially as personal as these, better left unsaid?

12 Steps to Falling in Love

For some, being single and dating is a lot of fun, but for others, being single can be frustrating, lonely, and just plain exhausting. I think both have their pros and cons, but if you've been feeling unlucky in love, Rabbi Shmuley's (of Oprah fame) 12 steps to falling in love might be of some help.

Admit you can't fall in love: Since many people couple up to avoid loneliness, Shmuley feels that admitting the reason why you want to fall in love will help gain realistic expectations.

Get help: Opening up about wanting to, but having a difficult time finding love will help alleviate some of the pressure and burden.

Heal the love wounds: Make amends with former lovers you may have hurt in the past. Accepting responsibility for your actions will help you fall in love again in the future.

Take your love pulse: Really ask yourself how loving you are. Shmuley feels that you cannot love specifically if you don't also love generally.

If you want to hear his eight other suggestions,

This morning I found a funny faux commercial posted on Tango mocking the herpes commercial genre. The funny guys at Britanick.com are the brains behind this add promoting a made-up drug called Herpex. Since there is no cure, Herpex is "specifically created to deal with genital herpes" and even though it doesn't prevent outbreaks, it does allow you to teleport which can come in handy during those uncomfortable moments! Of course this STI isn't a laughing matter, but I have to say that I thought this parody sure was. What do you think? Does this faux commercial take it too far or are you able to see the humor in it?

Relationship Protocol: Do You Know What His Number One Fantasy Is?

The great thing about a sexual fantasy is that it can be whatever we want it to be. The problem is that if a fantasy isn't in the realm of reality, it can be hard to act on, which is why many of our wild, crazy, whimsical, or just impossible ideas end up staying in the realm of make believe. And that's OK, but what I want to know is: Do you know what your man's number one fantasy is? And have you ever tried it to make it a reality?

After Hours at the Olympics — Who Would Have Thought!

When I think of Olympic athletes, I assume that after participating in their sport they are either eating, sleeping, or spending time with loved ones. According to The Times, though, they are actually getting busy! That's right, they are having sex either with each other or their spectators! Matthew Syed, a former english table tennis player explained it best: "I played my first Games in Barcelona in 1992 and got laid more often in those two and a half weeks than in the rest of my life up to that point . . . Barcelona was, for many of us Olympic virgins, as much about sex as it was about sport."

If you think about it, it actually makes perfect sense. They all have hot bodies, they have adrenaline pumping through their veins, and they are thrown together in the Olympic village so many of them take on the mindset of what happens at the Olympics, stays at the Olympics! In the 1988 Games in Seoul, there were so many used condoms found on the roofs of the British team's residences that the British Olympic Association banned outdoor sex. Since people didn't obey, organizers in Beijing thought it would be more effective to simply pass out thousands of free condoms to the athletes.

Of course, winning an Olympic medal comes with a sense of power and sex appeal, but I would have never guessed these athletes were getting as busy as they are! Are you surprised by this as much as I am?

The Dos and Don'ts of Dirty Talk

Many of you admitted to enjoying talking dirty, but I'm sure there are just as many of you who have yet to give it a go. It's true that dirty talk done wrong can be fairly awkward, but when you do it right, it can be a total turn-on for both you and your man. So if you're ready to try something new, here's my crash course in talking dirty.

Fortunately, dirty talk is more about attitude than what you're actually saying. So no matter what you say, just make sure you use your tone of voice to really sell it.

Try reading some erotica beforehand. Not only will it get you in the mood, but it might just give you something to talk about.

If you're noisy in the bedroom, use that sound to your advantage. Moans and gasps can give way to the most natural dirty talk!

Take baby steps. Start by throwing in a few sexual and arousing words during your usual lovemaking routine, and as you get more comfortable, amp it up. The more you get into it, the more he will, too.

To see the rest and add your own tips,

Sex is a fundamental part of any relationship, and can both bring people together or pull them apart, which is why sexual compatibility is so important. But what happens if the person you care about doesn’t do it for you? I’m sure it depends on individual needs, but is bad sex a dealbreaker for you?

Relationship Protocol: Sexual Dry Spells

All relationships have their ups and downs as personal needs and the demands of life fluctuate, but typically we think of these low points as emotional challenges rather than sexual disappointments. However, like all other aspects of a relationship, sex requires work and development, so it’s not surprising when couples encounter difficulties in the bedroom. Though I’m sure there are some of us still satisfying our voracious sexual appetites, I think many people have encountered a sexual dry spell in their relationship before. Have you? And if so, how did you and your boyfriend get out of it?

You Asked: I've Never Had an Orgasm

I've never had an orgasm. Not with another person or on my own. All the advice I find just tells me to relax and spend some time alone getting to know myself. And I've been trying that all these years with no luck. I am frustrated beyond belief! I get so stressed out about it that I often end up in tears. I know stress can be a factor, but knowing that doesn't help. I've discussed it with my various boyfriends over the years, and they have felt bad about it, but have no better ideas than me. I've read that some women go their entire lives without ever experiencing one. I don't want to be one of those women. Please help!

— Feeling Awful About Orgasms Alice

At the time, my friend warned me that although her roommate was a good friend, he was a notoriously bad boyfriend. I explained to her that I just wanted to have fun, but she still acted weird about it. Five months in, I learned he was hanging out with a lot of other girls, so we decided to end things. I was disappointed it didn't work out, but I knew it wasn't meant to be.

A few weeks ago I found out that I have genital herpes. I knew immediately it was from him — I've only been with one other guy who was also a virgin. I had asked him before we slept together if he had been tested, and he said he was totally clean. Obviously I was very upset by the news and confronted him. Naturally, he claimed that I must have picked it up from some other guy.

When I came crying to my friend, she was extremely distressed by what he had said. Apparently, he had confided in her a long time ago that he had herpes, but asked her to keep it a secret. When I heard this I was furious. I know that they're good friends, but I couldn't believe she'd kept that from me when she knew I was sleeping with him! I feel beyond betrayed, but she says she "tried" to warn me. Is her omission of the truth forgivable?

You Asked: He's Into S&M

Dear Sugar,

I'm usually OK with porn. I watch it myself and have watched it with former boyfriends however, my current boyfriend has always refused to let me watch his porn with him, and recently I learned why. The porn he watches is full of incredibly disturbing sado-masochistic porn, which I had no idea he was even slightly into. We've been together for almost two years! I'm definitely not into this kind of thing, and it makes me uncomfortable that he is. Can I approach him about this? And if so, what should I say? I don't want to ban him from porn that would be hypocritical, I'm just so shocked, and I feel like I need to know what about this turns him on.

— Doesn't Do Dominance Dee

In fact, just the experience of creating the perfect lip-smacking playlist can be a turn on in itself. So here's my own personal list of the top 10 makeout session songs!

Is Your Bedroom Equipped For Love Making?

I know many people who consider their bedrooms their sanctuaries. They spend a lot of money on a comfortable bed, soft sheets, and perfect lighting to make bedtime all the more enjoyable. But even if your bedroom is perfectly outfitted for a good night's sleep, let me ask you this: Is it suitable for a good night of sex? According to Tina B. Tessina, PhD and author of Money, Sex and Kids, for starters, we should all be taking it easy on the family photos:

Pictures of family and friends can spark subconscious thoughts of things troubling you or of obligation.

Additionally, she says TV is a big no-no in the bedroom. Researchers have found that those couples who do watch the tube in bed actually have less sex!

I'm pretty sure we all know how to set the mood when need be, but tell me, is your bedroom already well-equipped for sexy time at a moment's notice?

Do Tell: Have You Ever Been With an Uncircumcised Man?

The jury is still out when it comes to circumcising your kids, but when you meet a man as an adult, that decision was already made for him long ago. While circumcision is done for several reasons — so sons can look like their fathers, for religious purposes, or for cleanliness — medical research still wavers as to what's better. Since many are opting against it, do tell, have you ever been with an uncircumcised man? If so, was it any different from being with a man who was circumcised?

While practicing safe sex, these rubbers allow you to be so close to your partner that you actually become one. Now I'm all for ads that promote safe sex, even if they push the envelope, but my first reaction to seeing these was T-M-I!

Birth Control Pills: How Do They Compare?

I don't know about you, but just about every woman I know has been on or is taking birth control pills. There are so many different brands out there and they all offer different amounts of hormones, so I made this handy chart to help you figure out which one may be right for you. These pills are combination pills, which means they contain a type of estrogen (ethinyl estradiol), and a type of progestin (levonorgestrel, desogestrel, norethindrone). The pills with the least amount of ethinyl estradiol tend to offer the least amount of side effects, and the ones that offer the same hormonal dosages each day (monophasic pills) will help to ease PMS symptoms (mainly mood swings). With so many different options out there, it's important to know what's actually in these pills, since every woman's body reacts differently to hormonal birth control. Check out my chart below:

Using Sex Toys With a Partner

I know that in the past, using a sex toy with a partner was unheard of. I think most people assumed that it would give a guy a complex about his performance or make him feel inadequate. Now that people are becoming more open about their sexual experiences, women are realizing it's just as important for them to have an orgasm as it is for a man. Since intercourse alone doesn't always make that happen for a gal, sex toys are becoming popular. And truth be told, using sex toys can also be exciting for the guy and add some spice to your sex life.

What do you think? Do you or would you use sex toys with a partner? Are you against using sex toys entirely, or do you think they're best left for your alone time?

Source

The pill, condoms, the Nuvaring, and IUCs are pretty popular, but you don't hear too much about Implanon. Let's see what you know about it.

Do Tell: Are You Into Dirty Talk?

I know that most of you aren't fans of baby talk, but what about dirty talk? For some, it's easy to let your mouth run wild, whether it's talking out your fantasies or descriptively describing the act at hand, but knowing how to talk dirty in a way that makes it seductive is key in order for it to work! Of course we all like to hear that we're desirable, but do tell, are you generally into dirty talk? Does it turn you on or does it have the opposite effect? And if you're into it, are you the dirty talker or do you like to hear it from your partner?

Tips For Sex in the Car

Whether you think it's sexy to get it on in the backseat of your boyfriend's car or it's the only private place you can find because you both live with roommates, it can be a little awkward. So here are some tips to make your automobile makeout session as comfy and pleasurable as possible:

Park in a secluded area. No, I'm not saying you should drive to some sketchy parking lot or abandoned factory; just choose a place that's private so you don't have to worry about unexpected people walking by and disturbing your alone time.

Bring a blanket along so you can lay it on the seat. Not only will it make you feel more like you're at home in a real bed, but it'll also prevent your skin from sticking to the seats if they're made of leather. It's also nice to bring another blanket or sheet along in case you get cold or if you need to cover yourself up quickly (just in case your secluded place is not secluded enough!).

Have your birth control ready, if you need it. Stopping to put on a condom tends to put a hold on the mood anyway, but it'll be even worse if you have to stop and look around to figure out where they are. So before you start getting busy, put the condoms in the backseat pocket or in the side door.

Make a CD or playlist on your iPod of romantic tunes to play. This may help to get you in the mood and may make you feel less like you're in a car.

Emmenagogues: Do They Really Help With a Late Period?

If you're not trying to become pregnant, a late period can be no fun. It's so tough to just be patient and wait for Aunt Flo to show up, so that's where emmenagogues come in. It's a long name for a category of herbs and plants that are believed to induce menstruation. Supposedly they work by stimulating blood flow to a woman's pelvic area. Some of these plants include celery, parsley, yarrow, aloe vera, mugwort, swiss chard, and hemp.

I don't want to put down herbal remedies, but scientifically speaking, the time your period comes is all based on when you ovulate. So if something affected your body from ovulating such as stress or illness then you'll ovulate later, which means your period will also come later. If you do take one of these emmenagogues, and your period comes, it's likely that it's just one big coincidence and your period would have showed up whether you sipped parsley tea or not.

Of course, this is just my opinion so what do you think? Have you ever heard about herbs, essentials oils, foods, or techniques that can induce menstruation? I'd love to hear about them and whether or not they really worked!

The 50 Sexiest Music Videos of All Time

When I saw that Nerve.com put together a list of the 50 sexiest music videos of all time, my first thought was: Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" better be on there! Isaak's tribute to steamy beach lovin' indeed made the list, as did many other old standbys, including "Justify My Love" by Madonna and "Cryin'" by Aerosmith.

The list also features other sexy vids I'd totally forgotten about. Anyone else remember sneaking off to watch Billy Idol's "Cradle of Love" as a kid? And don't even get me started on D'Angelo's "How Does It Feel"! There are also a handful of obscure picks I've never seen before.

Check out the full list here. What do you think is missing from the list? Tell me what you think are the sexiest music videos, and check out five of my favorites when you

Do Tell: What Was Your First Orgasm Experience Like?

I'm a sentimental person, and I have a special place in my heart for "firsts." First slow dance, first date, first French kiss, first love, and who could forget her first time having sex?

I'm sure you remember such unforgettable milestones like these too, so what about your first orgasm? Were you alone or with someone else? Were you just fooling around, or did it happen while you were having sex? Or maybe you have yet to feel the amazing sensations of your first orgasm. I'm sure you all have unique stories, so do tell: What was your first orgasm experience like?

Where Do You Stand? Using Sex Toys Alone

I am in full support of women having spectacular, mind-blowing orgasms — as many as she can get her hands on in fact. But let's face it: Many women feel like it's only possible or appropriate when they're with someone else. For some of you, the whole idea of masturbation may seem wrong or not very sexually exciting, but I'm convinced that if you have a hard time with the idea of pleasuring yourself, using a sex toy may change your mind. It may help you reach an orgasm when you weren't able to in the past; it may offer you better, stronger orgasms; and it will allow you to get satisfaction without having to rely on someone else.

What do you think? Are sex toys the kind of thing you'd use alone, or do you think they're just too naughty or taboo?

Source

I'm very happy with where we are as couple except for one area: our sex life. My boyfriend just doesn't do it for me! I'm completely attracted to him, but his moves just don't get me to where I need to go. It's partially my fault; I've never communicated my likes and dislikes, instead, I've been faking orgasms (I know, I know) since day one.

At first it was just a matter of not ruining the night, but after a while it would have just been too weird if I didn't (pretend) orgasm anymore. I guess I just figured it would work itself out, but it hasn't. So now, in all these months, I haven't had one real orgasm and I can't take it anymore! I am satisfied in every other way, and I want to make it work, but I can't even comprehend what his reaction might be if I tell him the truth. He's a kind man, but he's still very prideful. Do you think he could ever forgive me for this?

What's the Deal With the A-spot?

I'm sure you've all heard of the female G-spot, but what about the A-spot? And no, it has nothing to do with your bum, although that's what I first thought, too! I'm actually referring to the Anterior Fornix Erogenous (AFE) Zone. It's an area inside a woman in between her G-spot and her cervix. It's extremely sensitive and should feel a little swollen, spongy, and wrinkly. When stimulated, not only does your A-spot help with lubrication, but it can make sex beyond pleasurable.

I'm sure you're dying to know how to get to your A-spot, so to find out,

You Asked: I'm Cheating With My Best Friend

Dear Sugar,

I'm in a sexual relationship with my best friend, who happens to be in a relationship that is on the rocks. This has been going on for five months now. At first I thought it was just a physical thing, but then I began growing feelings for him beyond friendship. Now I think I'm falling in love. I'm sure he and his girlfriend will break up eventually, but it's yet to happen, so should I wait to tell him how I feel or let him know now?

— More Than Friends Melissa

To see DearSugar's answer,

I gave you some information last week about this STI, so take this quiz to see just what you learned!

DearSugar Needs Your Help: My Fiance Lied to Me

DearSugar and Lied-To Linda need your help. Her long-term boyfriend lied to her about being a virgin, like she is, and now that the truth is out and the trust has been broken, she doesn't know how to proceed. They love each other, but can their relationship survive?

Dear Sugar,

I have been in an amazing relationship for about a year and a half. At the beginning, I was honest with my boyfriend about the fact that I was a virgin, and he responded that he was one too. We ended up taking our relationship to that next stage, and now I find out that he lied to me about his virginity. He told me that his lie was eating him up inside and he loved me too much to continue the facade. My reaction was immediate hurt and disgust. I just couldn't believe this person had been lying to my face for so long! He said that he realizes this is not going be fixed overnight and that trust was broken. We had talked about moving in together, marriage, and kids, but everything has changed now.

I explained to him that when you're in a relationship, you owe it to that person to be honest about everything, including their sexual history. He's completely admitted that he's in the wrong, and he tells me that he loves me and is willing to do whatever it takes to make our relationship work, but I'm torn. What if there are other lies out there that I don't know about? Do you think that I am over-analyzing this situation too much? I know that he is hurting as much as I am, but I just don't know how to move past this awkwardness. I know that this can either ruin our relationship or bring us closer as a couple, so any advice would be a tremendous help.
