I thought it would be a good idea to let my body adjust, so we've been using condoms ever since. Though I've been ready for a while now, my husband wants to wait until we're more financially stable, which I completely understand.

One night last month while we were having sex, I kept thinking to myself that it didn't feel like the condom was still on — it just felt too good. When he took it off, he didn't say anything so I just assumed it was still intact. I went to the bathroom to freshen up and checked the trash, just in case, and I was right — the condom had torn. Something inside of me got excited — there was now a possibility that I could become pregnant!

I didn't say anything to him about that night, and just this morning, I realized my period was late. I took a pregnancy test and it showed I am in fact pregnant! I'm thrilled, but at the same time, I'm guilt ridden for not being honest. The current state of the economy has made us even more financially unstable and I'm petrified to tell my husband this news. I would hate to think that he would have wanted me to take the morning after pill, so my train of thinking is what he won't know won't hurt him. Is it forgivable to keep my knowledge of the broken condom my little secret?

Lifestyles Skyn Condoms: "Closest Thing to Wearing Nothing"

If condoms are your primary form of birth control, for both pregnancy and STI prevention, then you'll be happy to know there's a new thin condom on the market. Lifestyles Skyn pledges to be the "closest thing to wearing nothing." Well that sounds inviting, doesn't it? These new Skyn condoms are made of a breakthrough material called polyisoprene, which is designed to be softer, stretchier, and more natural feeling. Skyns are meant to feel more like skin-to-skin contact, which is what we're after when it comes to sex, right? They are latex-free, so they're perfect if you have a latex allergy, but they still protect you against STIs. If you're turned off by regular condoms because they decrease sexual sensations, then you may want to give these a try. Let me warn you that they're pricier than latex condoms, with a 12-pack costing around $13.50. If they make your time under the sheets better, then I say they're worth the extra dough!

Have any of you tried these Skyn condoms yet? If so, let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Where Do You Stand? Using Condoms When You're Married

If you're not a fan of hormonal birth control, your options are limited when it comes to staying pregnancy-free. Condoms are an easy choice to stay protected when you're not in a committed relationship, but I've been hearing more and more married couples say that condoms are their preferred method of birth control, too. Of course to each their own, but isn't one of the perks of being in a committed marriage (one that's clear of STIs) that you don't have to fuss with interrupting the moment to find a condom? Clearly I'd pick another method, but where do you stand on using condoms when you're married? Do you, or would you, use them too?

Dear Quiz: How Well Do You Know Condom Brands?

If you've ever wandered down the feminine hygiene and condom aisle at your local drugstore, then you're sure to have noticed what amazing varieties there are in the world of condoms. There are different styles, sizes, colors, flavors, and of course, brands competing for your use! I'm sure many of you have sampled a few, but do you know your brands by the box? Take my quiz to test your knowledge!

Virginia Pharmacy Won't Carry Contraception

I've heard of Roman Catholics not believing in birth control, but now a new Roman Catholic pharmacy in Virginia doesn't believe in selling it. Divine Mercy Care Pharmacy isn't the only one letting their faith lead their business. Seven other pharmacies across the nation are doing the same. They're refusing to sell any forms of contraception, including condoms, birth control pills, and the morning-after pill, even if the person has a prescription.

States are dealing with this issue by passing laws that require drugstores to go against their religious beliefs and fill the prescriptions. Right now though, in the state of Virginia, these laws don't exist and devout Catholic-based drugstores are allowed to deny birth control to anyone who walks in their store.

To find out what abortion-rights groups think,

You Asked: How Can I Get Over My Guilt?

Dear Sugar,

I've been dating my boyfriend for almost a year and we've been friends for three years before that. We're very much in love and plan on getting married and having kids. About four years ago I found out that I have HPV which developed into genital warts — I've since had treatment and the warts are gone. I never told my boyfriend for fear that he wouldn't have wanted to be with me, but the guilt was killing me so I told him the truth this week. He reacted very well and we are still together, but I'm a wreck about all this. How can I let go of my guilt so it doesn't affect my relationship any more than it already has? — Remorseful Renata

After Hours at the Olympics — Who Would Have Thought!

When I think of Olympic athletes, I assume that after participating in their sport they are either eating, sleeping, or spending time with loved ones. According to The Times, though, they are actually getting busy! That's right, they are having sex either with each other or their spectators! Matthew Syed, a former english table tennis player explained it best: "I played my first Games in Barcelona in 1992 and got laid more often in those two and a half weeks than in the rest of my life up to that point . . . Barcelona was, for many of us Olympic virgins, as much about sex as it was about sport."

If you think about it, it actually makes perfect sense. They all have hot bodies, they have adrenaline pumping through their veins, and they are thrown together in the Olympic village so many of them take on the mindset of what happens at the Olympics, stays at the Olympics! In the 1988 Games in Seoul, there were so many used condoms found on the roofs of the British team's residences that the British Olympic Association banned outdoor sex. Since people didn't obey, organizers in Beijing thought it would be more effective to simply pass out thousands of free condoms to the athletes.

Of course, winning an Olympic medal comes with a sense of power and sex appeal, but I would have never guessed these athletes were getting as busy as they are! Are you surprised by this as much as I am?

Condom Ads: Too Much or Straight to the Point?

While practicing safe sex, these rubbers allow you to be so close to your partner that you actually become one. Now I'm all for ads that promote safe sex, even if they push the envelope, but my first reaction to seeing these was T-M-I!

Want to see another? Just

Tips For Sex in the Car

Whether you think it's sexy to get it on in the backseat of your boyfriend's car or it's the only private place you can find because you both live with roommates, it can be a little awkward. So here are some tips to make your automobile makeout session as comfy and pleasurable as possible:

Park in a secluded area. No, I'm not saying you should drive to some sketchy parking lot or abandoned factory; just choose a place that's private so you don't have to worry about unexpected people walking by and disturbing your alone time.

Bring a blanket along so you can lay it on the seat. Not only will it make you feel more like you're at home in a real bed, but it'll also prevent your skin from sticking to the seats if they're made of leather. It's also nice to bring another blanket or sheet along in case you get cold or if you need to cover yourself up quickly (just in case your secluded place is not secluded enough!).

Have your birth control ready, if you need it. Stopping to put on a condom tends to put a hold on the mood anyway, but it'll be even worse if you have to stop and look around to figure out where they are. So before you start getting busy, put the condoms in the backseat pocket or in the side door.

Make a CD or playlist on your iPod of romantic tunes to play. This may help to get you in the mood and may make you feel less like you're in a car.

Trichomoniasis: The Most Common, Curable STI

Just when you thought you knew about every STI in the book, trichomoniasis shows up. Trichomoniasis or "trich" is found more often in women than men, but affects both sexes. Caused by a parasite passed during vaginal intercourse, like most STIs, it's usually preventable with proper protection. Carriers of trich typically show very few symptoms. Women who do show symptoms will usually notice them within five to 28 days after exposure.

Symptoms:

Reddening of the vagina or vulva

Frothy, green or yellow vaginal discharge.

Itching

Fishy odor

Discomfort during sex and/or urination

To learn about the complications of this STI and treatment please

Dear Poll: Do You Feel Relieved When Your Period Comes?

Assuming you aren't ready to have kids, you're most likely using some sort of birth control. But since condoms are only 85 percent effective, and IUCs and the pill are 99 percent effective, there is that small chance you could still get pregnant. So with that said, waiting for your period to come can be a nerve-wracking event. And even though getting your period and suffering through everything that comes with it isn't fun, when I'm sexually active, I'm almost elated when it comes! Are you ladies with me in this one? Do you get that relieved, excited feeling when your monthly friend comes even though you're using protection?

Where Do You Stand? Who Should Pay For Birth Control

If you're dating or in a relationship, chances are you're having sex and using birth control (unless you're trying to have a baby). Although birth control is absolutely worth every penny, it's not exactly cheap. Depending on the method you're using, you can end up spending $15 to $30 a month — $180 to $360 a year, which is no small chunk of change no matter how much money you make.

So where do you stand on who should pay for it? Some of my friends split the cost evenly with their significant other. I also have a few friends who have a deal that whoever uses it or wears it pays for it; the women pay for the Nuvaring, the pill, the patch, or the IUD, and the guys pay for the condoms.

So who pays for it in your relationship? You? Your partner? Both of you? Or do your insurance companies foot the bill for birth control?

Anal HPV (Yep, That's What I Said)

So I'm sure you're sick of me talking about HPV, the STI that can cause genital warts and certain types of cervical cancer, but I'm not finished yet. There's also another type of HPV you should know about — anal HPV — that's just as common as cervical HPV.

No, anal HPV isn't only contracted through anal sex, although women who engage in this act are definitely more at risk, but so are women who are young, white, with lower levels of education and income, and a history of having multiple sexual partners. It can also be passed through sexual play (by using fingers or sharing sex toys). It's thought that oral sex may also transmit anal HPV, although doctors unfortunately aren't clear about all the ways it can be transmitted.

Why is anal HPV something to watch out for? To find out

Dear Quiz: What Should I Do if I Miss a Pill?

For it to be 99.9 percent effective, we all know that it must be taken at the same time every day, but since we are all human, it's easy to forget. So what should you do when that happens? Take this quiz to find out if you're doing the right thing when you miss a pill.

There's been a lot of news about STIs lately. We all know it's important to protect yourself against disease, but it's also important to protect yourself against pregnancy if having a baby isn't part of your immediate plan. Maybe you already have a method that works for you, but in case you're unhappy and want to explore other options, I've put together a three-part series on finding the right method.

Want to see part one? Then

DearSugar Needs Your Help: She's Afraid to Be Intimate Again

DearSugar and Weary Wendy need your help. After an unexpected pregnancy and miscarriage, she's afraid to become intimate again with her boyfriend. They love each other very much, but she's scared. If any of you have been in a similar situation, she'd love some advice.

My boyfriend and I recently found out I was pregnant. It was a shock because we've always used multiple forms of protection. We were in a really bad position to have a child, both still in college and living 400 miles apart. When I told him the news, we both broke down. We fell asleep holding hands and crying on the couch. Two days later, I had an early miscarriage. As upsetting as an unplanned pregnancy was, this miscarriage was also pretty hard on both of us, but my boyfriend has been unwavering in his support for me. After the first night, he apologized for reacting so selfishly and for not acknowledging what I was going through. Since then, he's been the most amazing partner I could ever hope for. In the wake of these sad surprises, our relationship has become stronger and our level of intimacy has grown exponentially.

My problem, though, is that both of us are nervous to be sexually active again, especially since when we conceived, we were using a condom and I was on the pill. Neither of us wants to be in this position again so do you have any advice for us? Was this just a fluke?

Sex Myth: Tighter Means Better

If you or your partner have ever thought that wearing condoms that fit tightly will prevent pregnancy better; that it'll stop sperm from getting out, you're wrong. This is a huge misconception, and could actually cause an unwanted pregnancy. You see if the condom is too tight, the friction of having sex could actually break the material.

Polyurethane and latex condoms are already 85 percent effective at preventing pregnancy, so if used correctly, you can't make them any more effective (unless you use them with another form of birth control such as the Nuvaring).

It's also important to remember that when a guy puts on a condom, he needs to leave a little space at the tip so when he ejaculates, there's room for the semen inside the condom. If it's is pulled on too tightly, it could get overstretched and cause the condom to break, or sperm could overflow out the top. Be sure to follow the directions on the box when using condoms, and make sure the guy always wears the correct size.

Source

You Asked: Can I Make Putting on a Condom Sexy?

Dear Sugar,

How do I make putting on a condom sexy? I'd like to actually incorporate the condom into our sex, as opposed to making it a routine stop. Is there a way to make it fun and to not lose the momentum?

— Curious Cami

What About Rapex?

A little while ago, I told you about Fem Defence, the device a woman can wear to prick a predator who tries to rape her. You all had a lot to say about it, and user annalia05 mentioned that it was kind of like Rapex. Unlike FemDefense, this is a patented product. It's an antirape female condom that was designed by a South African inventor, wanting to give South African women a way to defend themselves against rape.

It's a tampon-sized device that a woman wears inside her. It clamps down on his penis causing pain and giving the woman a chance to get away from the attacker.

This form of defense is sure to spark debate so tell me your opinion about this this antirape condom. Do you think it could cause more harm than good, or are you all for anything that can help keep women safe from predators?

Lesson Learned: Always Be Prepared

As you know, I'm a huge fan of birth control. Apparently so is this guy . . .

Dear's Advice: Keeping condoms in your car or wallet may not be such a good idea as extreme temperatures could diminish their effectiveness. Instead, keep condoms in your nightstand or purse in a cute condom case so you're always prepared.

News to Me: America's Sexiest Cities

Following on the heels of America's most depressed states, a new study published in Forbes.com reveals America's most lustful cities, and they may not be what you were expecting. I was expecting to see San Francisco, LA, Las Vegas, or even Miami, but in fact those famous cities don't even make the list! Surprisingly, Denver, Colorado takes the number one spot; maybe it's all that cold weather. Forbes explains:

Residents of these metros enjoy vigorous sex lives--at least their condom and contraceptive purchases at grocery and drug stores indicate as much.

While they contend that using results based off purchases of contraception is not fault proof, it does give a general understanding of which cities get downright physical the most.

To check out the top 10

Lubricants: Oil, Water, and Silicone Based

A few drops on either partner will make things glide along smoothly when the woman isn't creating enough of her own natural juices. There are so many different kinds to choose from and since I've already told you about glycerin and the ingredients in many lubricants that can cause yeast infections, why don't I now tell you about the differences between ones that are oil, water, and silicone based?

We all know by now that condoms are the easiest way to keep yourself safe from pregnancy and STIs, but interrupting to ask the guy you're with if he has one can not only ruin the moment, but it can also be incredibly awkward. For some reason, I think most women feel it's the man's job to supply the condoms, but in this day and age, many women come prepared just in case! So ladies, when you're dating someone and sex is inevitable, tell me, do you bring condoms with you or do you rely on him to be prepared?

The Nitty Gritty on Nonoxynol-9

If you use spermicidal foam, gels or cream, or lubricated condoms with added spermicide, they often contain the chemical nonoxynol-9 (or N-9). Since it's something you put inside your body, it's important to know about it. Take this quiz to test your knowledge.

Sex Myth: Two Condoms Are Better Than One

Nobody wants to have an unexpected pregnancy. We do all we can not to get pregnant, and some of us even come up with ideas of our own to prevent becoming a premature mom.

I'll never forget when my best friend from high school lost her virginity (she was the first one in our circle of friends). She said that she wanted to be extra sure not to get pregnant, so she made her boyfriend wear two condoms instead of one. Bad idea! While it's true that condoms are 85 percent effective at preventing pregnancy, double bagging (as it's sometimes called) does not make condoms more effective. In fact, wearing two condoms causes tension and friction, so tearing is more likely to happen. Plus, two condoms can be bunchy, which will cause it to not fit properly. If the condom doesn't fit right, it's more likely to slip off, and semen can potentially get inside the vagina causing pregnancy.

Dear's Advice: Stick to using one condom, the right way. If you hate condoms, use another effective form of birth control to make sure you stay pregnant free.

Male Condoms: Pros and Cons

Personally, I think condoms have a bad reputation. People hate that they can decrease feeling, but they can also make sex last longer, which is obviously a total plus!
Condoms: Male vs. Female

Condoms are an amazing invention, aren't they? Not only are they effective at helping you not get pregnant, but also they help prevent you from contracting an STI. Male condoms have been around much longer than female condoms so I think they definitely get used more, but isn't it great that there's another option available that allows women can be in control too? A woman can now use the female condom to protect herself from disease and motherhood, and no longer has to rely on the guy to use a condom.

Want to see how these two compare? Then

DearSugar Needs Your Help: Condom Spillage

Dear Sugar and Wanting a Neater Option Omalee needs your help. How do you deal with the mess after sex?

Dear Sugar,

I usually use condoms with my boyfriend, but now that we've both been tested and I'm on the pill, we've had some issues with...er...spillage after he ejaculates. It becomes such a mess right afterwards and while I sleep. I even have to deal with it the following day (I can feel it dripping out of me). I'm wondering, what do other readers do to keep things clean?

Tips on Getting a Guy to Wear a Condom

Not only do women have to worry about getting pregnant when they have sex, but they also have to worry about contracting an STI. Wearing condoms is a great way to protect yourself from both, while still being able to enjoy sex.

Guys may complain about using them, say things like they can't feel as much, or it's harder for them to orgasm. Of course, if a guy is being a jerk about it, then I'd be turned off and not even want to have sex with him with him in the first place, but sometimes it just takes a little gentle coaxing. Here are some tips to get him to slip one on:

Keep condoms with you, in your purse, in these cute condom holders, and in your nightstand drawer. That way if a guy says, "I don't have one," you can say, "That's OK, I do!"

Offer to put it on for him.

Want to see the rest, then

Glow in the Dark Condoms Anyone?

Who isn't looking to spice things up in the bedroom? We've all tried new sexual positions (remember those Kamasutra Condoms?) and we've also tried having sex in different places in the house. We've even talked about incorporating food into our lovemaking sessions. Well, what about trying a more playful condom?

I just came across these Night Light Condoms, which glow in the dark after being exposed to light for 30 seconds. Sounds fun, doesn't it? Not only will these add some extra flair to your intimate time in the bedroom, but these Night Light condoms are also FDA-approved for preventing pregnancy and protecting against STIs.

You can order Night Light condoms individually ($1.99 each) or you can buy them in packs of three, 12, 24, 48, or even 144. Wow — that's a lot of glow-in-the-dark loving going on.

Want to see what they look like out of the package? Then

News to Me: 1 in 10 Men Have Overlapping Sex Partners

Call me old-fashioned, but I only date one guy at a time. That means I only have one sexual partner at a time, and I thought that was what most people did. Apparently not. According to this ABC News story, a new study shows that one out of every 10 men, observed over the course of a year, had sexual relationships with more than one woman at a time.

If these guys are having sex with a bunch of different women, those poor unsuspecting ladies probably have no idea. Not only is it disrespectful — and pretty sleazy if you ask me — but the practice also may be contributing to the spread of HIV and other STIs. Of course, using condoms is a great way to prevent HIV and other STIs from spreading, but unfortunately, they don't protect you 100 percent.

I hope this study will increase awareness about how important it is to practice safe sex. My advice: Before you get intimate with a new partner, be sure that both of you get tested for all STIs, especially HIV.

What do you think about this news? Do the results of the study surprise you?

Kamasutra Condoms

Looking for exciting ideas to use under the sheets? <img src="http://images.teamsugar.com/files/users/1/12981/41_2007/K.jpg" alt="" title="" class="outline left image preview" height="213"width="293">A Kama Sutra book may be too complicated and wordy, so how about these Kamasutra Condoms? Each of the 64 poses are illustrated on the condom packaging, and with that many ideas, I'm sure you'll have a hard time being bored!

They come in packs of ten for $25 and are made of latex so they'll protect you from pregnancy and STIs. These would make the perfect gift for someone, or a great addition to your night stand drawer.

Do Tell: What's in Your Night Stand?

Sometimes people's most personal belongings are kept in their bedside table drawer as opposed to their medicine cabinet. It's easy to snoop around in someone's bathroom, but going through people's drawers in their bedroom is just a total no no. So whether it's your book, your private photos, condoms, lube, your vibrator or your favorite sex toy, ladies do tell, what do you keep in your bedside table drawer?

Protect the Condoms That Protect You

A girl's got to do what a girl's got to do, and when it comes to protecting herself against STIs and pregnancy, condoms are essential. The thing is, you can't always expect the guy to be in charge of supplying the condoms, so keeping them in your purse or in your bathroom cabinet is a great idea.

Although it's easy to throw them in a drawer or drop them into your bag, you don't just want them to be loose. They could get damaged, which would defeat the purpose entirely, not to mention how embarrassing it would be if your purse accidentally fell. You don't need everyone knowing that you're a fan of Trojan Supras! Luckily there is a cute way to solve the loose condom problem, so check out these cute and discreet condom holders.

Condom History

Many couples are fans of condoms when it comes to birth control. They're a great way to protect yourself from STIs, they're cheap, they don't alter your menstrual cycle, and they prevent pregnancy.

I thought it would be fun to talk about the history of condoms. Let's see what you know.

What Form of Birth Control Do You Use?

There are so many forms of birth control out there that it can make your head spin. Everyone has different needs, so the same choice may not work for all women.

You may be on the Pill to help alleviate painful periods or cysts. Or you may be using the Nuvaring because you can't remember to take the Pill. Hormones may not be right for you because you're worried about STIs or because you hate the annoying side effects, so you may be relying on condoms. If you don't want to have to think about your birth control, maybe you're loving the Shot or the Implant.

What's the Deal With: The Cervical Cap?

Barrier methods of birth control are great options if you don't want to take hormones to prevent pregnancy. They work by blocking sperm from entering your uterus, which prevents fertilization.

The cervical cap is similar to the diaphragm, it's just a little smaller. It's made of latex and is shaped like a thimble. When you insert it into your vagina, it fits snugly over your cervix and suction and your vaginal muscles keep the cap in place.

Advantages:

After you get fitted for one by your gyno, you can keep it for up to a year or more.

It's reusable.

There are no hormones involved, and it won't affect your menstrual cycle.

It won't affect future fertility.

Unlike a diaphragm that you can only keep in place for 24 hours, a cervical cap can be left in place up to 48 hours.

There's a latex-free version called the FemCap.

Want to hear the Disadvantages? Then

Dear Sugar--

I just recently lost my virginity and my first time hurt a lot. I thought things would get easier after that but my boyfriend and I are still having difficulties. The subsequent 4 or 5 times we've tried having sex since have all ended up with me telling him to stop because it hurt so much. I always end up feeling really sore afterwards too. Is it supposed to hurt at the beginning like this? What can we do to make it less painful? We've tried with him on top and me on top both with the same disappointing results. Help!

--Sore From Sex Sally

How Do I Choose the Right Condom?

When it comes to birth control, condoms may be a drag (because you're not really in direct contact with your partner), but when used properly, they are extremely effective at preventing pregnancy and STIs and they don't require the woman to be on hormones like the Pill, the Patch, the Nuvaring, the Shot, or the Implant. In addition to protecting you, condoms can help if the guy reaches orgasm too quickly by decreasing sensations.

With so many kinds of condoms out there, it's tough to know how to pick the right one. It's important to think about what the condom is made of, if it comes with lubricant, and what size to buy, etc. To figure out how to choose

Sex Irritates Me!

Using condoms is an awesome way to protect yourself from STIs and unwanted pregnancies. The thing is, most condoms are made out of latex, and for some women who have a latex sensitivity, it can be really irritating.

The protein in latex is what people are allergic to. Latex rubber gloves, balloons and condoms are high in this protein, and can cause serious reactions. If you are sensitive to latex, when you have sex you may experience burning, itchiness, redness, puffiness, and an all around uncomfortable irritation.

Some latex condoms also contain spermicidal lubricant. Before declaring that you are allergic, try using latex condoms without spermicidal lubricant. If your lady business is still in pain, you know it's the latex condom causing it not the spermicide.

There are latex-free condoms. To hear about them

The How-To Lounge: Prevent Condoms From Breaking

Condoms are a pretty popular form of birth control because they help prevent you from getting STIs and from getting preggers. This is true when they are used properly, and when they don't break. I recommend using latex condoms, or polyurethane ones if you have a latex allergy. It's also important to know that Natural Lamb condoms don't protect against STIs, but will protect you against pregnancy.

So how can you prevent the dreaded "condom breaking" nightmare? Here are some very important tips to keep in mind:

When the guy puts the condom on, he must make sure to leave some space at the top (the tip) so there's room for the semen he ejaculates. If you don't, pressure can build up and cause the condom to break.

Friction is a bad thing when it comes to sex - it feels bad and can put too much pressure on the condom. Make sure that the woman is lubricated, either naturally (it happens when the woman is aroused), or with the help of a personal lubricant. Just so you know, oil-based lubes (like baby oil or Vaseline) can break the down the latex, so onlly water-based lubricants (like Astroglide or ones made byKY) should be used with latex condoms. Oil-based lubes are however safe to use with plyurethane condoms like Avanti brand, since they are made out of non-latex material. You could also try using lubricated condoms.

2 condoms are NOT better than 1. "Double Bagging" as it's called can actually cause more friction, which can cause rippage.

Always use a new condom each time you have sex. The package should be opened carefully, men- don't use your teeth- and the condom should be slowly unrolled all the way down the shaft of his penis.

Want to know some other important tips? Then

Polyurethane Condoms and STIs

Being that today, June 27, is National HIV Testing Day, I thought it'd be a great time to chat about protecting yourself from the emotional and physical damage of HIV and other STIs (sexually transmitted diseases).

Latex condoms protect you 100% from STIs, but what about polyurethane condoms like Avanti and Trojan Supra? Are they just as effective?

You Asked: My Period Is Late — Am I Pregnant?

Dear Sugar,

I had sex one month and three weeks ago, while I had my period, and the condom ripped. One month later, when I was supposed to get my period, I never got it. Another three weeks have passed, and I still have not gotten it. I feel all the symptoms of pregnancy: tired, breasts hurting, lower back hurting, cramping, nausea (non-stop). Could I be pregnant even though I had sex on my period? Could there be another reason why I haven't gotten my period? I was on birth control pills for about a year but I got off about four months ago. Can that affect it? My periods have been fine and on time since then, EXCEPT NOW! Please answer and just to let you know, I'm 17 years old.

— Am I Pregnant Pam

Pillow Talk: More Fun With Safer Sex

While condoms aren't as sexy or romantic as, say, the right music, there's also nothing more disruptive or difficult than dealing with an unwanted pregnancy or a sexually transmitted disease.

I think it's important to find a good condom you both like and to make the whole experience of purchasing them, pausing to get it, putting it on, and using it a little more playful and sexy. Try buying a grab bag like the one here from Good Vibrations. They offer several different variety 'packs' and you can experiment to see which styles you like better. Talk about it afterward. Rank them. Be a little silly about it.

Let's be honest, too: sometimes a little extra lubrication makes the condom experience better for everyone, so one of you roll on the condom while the other one warms up the gel. I like Good Vibrations for a million reasons (you can read their mission statement here), but practically speaking, it's wildly consumer-friendly. You can purchase sample packs of lubrication, too, which is a great way for you both to experiment and talk about the results.

Be imaginative and secure enough to enjoy the condoms and to insist on them. Besides, there's enough to worry about, ladies. Seriously.
