Brad Pitt turned paparazzi on his beloved brood for the November issue of W. While the actor, his partner, Angelina Jolie, and their six offspring — Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox — often find themselves the subject of snapping shutterbugs, this time daddy Brad was behind the lens and calling the shots.

The Jolie-Pitts had Chateau Miraval in the south of France as a breathtaking backdrop and, most likely, state of the art cameras, makeup artists, and lighting technicians, but many moms and pops are able to capture their family's essence on film. Whether the pictures grace the pages of a major magazine or a handmade scrapbook or album doesn't make a difference. Photos are a way for everyone to preserve memories. Who mans the camera in your home?

Back in the day, moms didn't dare leave the house without their brag books. These days, parents carry their cell phones, which often have cameras included. At a moment's notice, they can whip out digital evidence of their wee ones adorable mugs. For months now I have been meaning to buy a book and fill it with snapshots of my daughter's various stages. As number two quickly approaches, I better get on it sooner than later.Do you have a brag book? Source

It’s true what they say about everybody being their worst critic; at least it certainly seems to be the case when it comes to our opinions of our physical attributes. Stare at a picture of yourself for even a second too long and it’s easy to start internally tallying all of the things about yourself that you don’t like. Whenever I have a tendency to do this, I remind myself that looking back, I'll care far more about the memories than whether or not it looked like I had a double chin. I may not be as photogenic as a model, but things could definitely be worse! We all have our off days, but in general, do you think you photograph well? Source

I’m definitely photogenic. I get a bad picture every now and then, but my signature smile usually pulls through.

I don’t photograph well at all. I don’t know what it is, but I dread the camera.

It depends on too many outside factors for me to be sure — makeup, outfit, distance, etc.

Eh, I don’t care either way. A picture is just a picture.

Lil Tip: Teary Goodbyes

Dropping your child off at daycare or school can be an emotional task. Your tot screams with outstretched arms begging you to come back while tears stream down your face. It's agonizing for both parent and child.

One way to ease into drop offs is to give your babe something special that they can keep with them all day. A blanket or a toy from home can sometimes provide them the comfort they need. For older children, try a picture of mom and dad. When they get sad, they can pull it out and be reminded that Mommy and Daddy are thinking of them even though they're not there. Soon enough, the kids will be leaping out of the car ready for a fun-filled day without you.

You Asked: My Boyfriend Won't Let Me Take His Picture

Dear Sugar,

I recently went on an all-expenses paid trip to New York with my boyfriend, and it was great. However, when we were on our carriage ride through Central Park, my boyfriend refused to take a picture with me. Not only did he refuse while on this excursion, but he refused throughout the entire trip. I know he has nothing to hide; he just doesn't like getting pictures taken. I was so upset over this, and he just didn't care. He kept saying "No pictures. No way." We ended up spending the rest of the day angry, and he even threatened to get me an early flight back home. Any advice on this? We have had arguments about pictures before. He just refuses to let anyone take our picture. I really only have one of him since we have been together. Whats going on?

Weight Loss Tip: Photograph Your Progress

I feel for you. I do. When you're not at the weight you want, you don't want a camera coming anywhere near you. Getting your picture taken can make you feel unbearably self-conscious, but when it comes to losing weight, seeing what you look like can help you make progress.

Wherever you are on your weight loss road, start today, and take a picture of yourself. If you're up for it, take a picture in a bathing suit or your bra and undies. Don't worry because these are pictures only you will see. As you continue with your weight loss/fitness program, take a picture of yourself every week (or every month like they did in this photo from the September 07 issue of Allure magazine). After a couple of months, you can line up all the photos in a row and actually see your progress. It's truly amazing to see your body transformation in print, since you don't necessarily notice any changes when you're looking in the mirror everyday.

Seeing your weight loss documented like this is also a great way to motivate you to keep working hard. When you can actually see how your efforts have paid off, you're more likely to keep at it.

Geek Tip: Picasa Rolls Out New Features

Google has just announced some new additions to Picasa web albums, which will give us more freedom to play around with our pictures. The first feature is called "Map My Photos" and lets you tag photos so that you can show people the exact location where you took your picture. Once you choose to share your album, all your tagged images will show up on a Google map just like the one shown here - a great way to show friends and family where you've been on trips etc! The second feature is called "Picasa for your mobile" and will let you flip through your latest photo albums from Picasa on your cell phone. Just click on "My favorites" and your images will automatically re-size to fit your mobile's screen!
