Green tea must currently be the most studied beverage on the planet. Another group of studies just came out showing that the brew
reduces the brain plaque buildup that can lead to Alzheimer's.
Green tea, with its high antioxidant count, also helps ward off certain cancers, helps fight HIV, protects the skin against UV damage, and boosts your metabolism.

Hi Fit,
I have been keeping a food journal as part of my weigh loss efforts, and have been tracking what I eat, portions, and nutritional balance. However, there is one thing that I am lost about: sugar intake. Every day I look through what I've eaten and see what I need to eat more of and eat less of, but the problem is I have no idea what the normal healthy range of sugar is.

Dining out has been known to sabotage many waistlines, so I was more than happy to discover that several of the predicted restaurant trends for 2009 may help us control our calorie intake while eating out. The American Culinary Federation surveyed 1,600 chefs for their take on what we'll see more of on menus this year, and some of the hottest
trends are focused on nutrition and health. Here are some of the healthful themes I'm excited to see develop and expand in 2009.

They say you can't compare apples and oranges, but sometimes the only way to understand the dangers of certain treats are by comparison. Test your food knowledge with a few simple comparisons below.

Going to the grocery store when you're hungry is the ultimate test in temptation and it's a given that you shouldn't run this errand on an empty stomach. It's good to go when when you've had some food, but an even better time to go is right after you've exercised. Working out can actually
decrease your appetite.

You've probably seen those
commercials boasting that high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) isn't as bad for you as you think, since it's made from all-natural corn. It's misleading though because just like refined
white sugar, HFCS is a highly processed sweetener. Both sugar and HFCS provide zero nutrition and loads of empty calories.

When you have a craving for a sweet, flavorful drink but don't want soda because it's made with refined sugar and chemicals, remember that juice is an option. The juice that you can find just about anywhere is
Odwalla. They're fresh and come in a variety of choices so you can satisfy whatever taste you're craving.
Fiber is a necessity for your body. Not only does it keep you regular and help get rid of toxins, but getting enough can also help lower your cholesterol, and prevent heart disease and certain cancers. Women are encouraged to consume between
25 and 30 grams a day.

I hate when I have stomach issues, and having food poisoning has got to be the worst. It stinks that something you ate, whether it was out to dinner, at a friend's house, or in your own kitchen, could make you have to run to the bathroom every five minutes (or never leave for hours). Sometimes knowing others have felt your pain can make you feel better, so tell me .

North woke up ready to ring in 2009 (OK, maybe he's this excited every morning), but I'm in the mood to bake something yummy
like I did last year. Lucy Postins, founder of
The Honest Kitchen, shared her own homemade Holiday Noshers recipe with me a while back, and I'm thinking that's what I should bake up for my pooch today. If you want to join me in treating a pal to these fruity treats, get the recipe and .
