If you tuned into Oprah yesterday, you'd see just how true the statement "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is. Mara Schiavocampo of NBC news traveled around the word to find out how different cultures define beauty. She discovered that big butts and ankles are considered beautiful in Mauritania, a perfect nose is ideal for Iranian women, and straight hair and pale skin is what Japanese women go to great lengths to achieve. Since the American standard of beauty is different from those around the globe, it's more clear to me than ever just how many of us succumb to the pressures of societal norms. Of course, it's all about what makes us feel good from the inside out, but tell me ladies, what do you consider beautiful?

Cell Phone Dermatology: The Face Rash

I'm totally paranoid about my face and am always trying to clean off my germy cell phones where they touch me, but it sounds like a bacteria-induced breakout is the least of my problems: Apparently the nickel used in many handsets can cause irritation anywhere you're touching it, like your cheek or even your fingers, just from typing.

It sounds like it's more of an issue with prolonged use, so if you're starting to get an itchy face — AKA "mobile phone dermatitis," then maybe you should whip out your headset if you can't bring yourself to decrease your cell phone use. Anyone else feel itchy just from reading about this?

What City Do You Think Has the Best Looking People?

According to an online poll taken by Travel +Leisure magazine, Miami residents are the most attractive in the US. As someone who's visited there, I can see why! Philadelphia came in last at number 25, with New Orleans as a close runner-up. When looking at the correlation between good-looking people and singles, you might be pleasantly surprised — seems like there are a lot of pretty single people out there, especially in San Francisco and Texas. The notion of a specific place having more good-looking people than another is kind of funny, but it's so true! When ever I travel to New York or Los Angeles, there's someone beautiful to look at everywhere you turn. In my opinion, the best-looking people reside in the Big Apple, but what about you? Would You Leave the House with No Makeup?

They don't call it bare-faced cheek for nothing. Stepping out the house sans makeup, is either a beauty crime or no big deal, depending on how you see it. My cousin, who we jokingly call the Australian Peaches Geldof (her dad was in a famous 70's rock band and her mum used to date England footballer George Best), has the best skin I've ever seen and is all-round beautiful, but she admitted she'd never, ever leave the house with no makeup on, even if it was just to buy milk. I, on the other hand, can frequently be seen loitering around east London looking like I just woke up. Not that I'm particularly proud, I'd run a mile if I saw anyone I knew. I just like to try and give my skin a break from makeup, every now and then. How about you, do you go out without even a scrap of makeup?Source

Do Good Looks Help Women Get Their Way?

I came across a great article over the weekend on Tango.com, raising the issue of how good looks affect the way people treat you, and in this case, how much people give you. To test the notion, a Current TV reporter spent two days on the streets of London seeing how much she could get away with — one day dressed and made up, the other day looking plain and casual. As I'm sure most of you assume, she got way more on day one — from free taxi rides to free cake — and men didn't even flinch at her somewhat outlandish requests. Day two, on the other hand, wasn't successful at all. In fact, it took the reporter three trips to different bars before someone bought her a beer.

While it'd be nice to think that we're all equal, I don't think that's the case. Do you? Regardless of what the mirror reflects back at you, tell me, do you think good looks help people get what they want more than someone who's less attractive?

Nintendo DS Teams Up With Shiseido Makeup

My Nintendo DS knows the contours of my thumbs very well — why shouldn't it know the contours of my face? In late November, when Project Beauty launches, it will. Project Beauty, the result of a collaboration between Shiseido and Nintendo DS, is a DS game that will recognize your face from a scan, and will then make beauty product recommendations for you (probably Shiseido products).

Wouldn't it be great if you could get cell-phone apps like this, too? It would certainly make your morning a little easier, even if it's just to tell you, yes, you do look toe-up today.

Fix: To prevent a ridge from forming mid-length, pull hair into a high ponytail and secure with a fabric holder instead of a tight elastic. "When you take hair down, it'll have extra volume," says Austin.

Fix: Avoid deodorant soap during your post-workout shower. Opt for a gentle body wash or simply rinse with water.
