I'm 28 and the youngest of three children. My siblings and I had a challenging childhood; our dad disappeared from our lives when we were little, and our mother suffered from severe depression. In somewhat startling news, David Duchovny, who has two children with his wife, actress Tea Leoni, checked into rehab for sex addiction today. Though we often hear about stars heading to rehab for substance abuse, sex addiction enters a whole new territory of implications.
Some might say that admitting you need help for sex addiction is akin to saying you've been unfaithful.

My new favorite show, Intervention, is gaining popularity by the second. It's the show I can't wait to discuss with my friends the next day and even though the people depicted are troubled and in dire need of help, I'm fascinated each and every episode. Of course reality TV isn't anything new, but this documentary takes the reality to a whole other level.

One double-click too many? An Illinois facility has become the first to offer in-patient treatment for Internet addiction. The cases have been serious — like one patient who wouldn't shower or eat for days, and play computer games until dawn, and another patient so addicted to Internet shopping had boxes shipped to her in the treatment center.

I love it when a new report comes out that pinpoints yet another reason we should all exercise. As if being mortified to put on a bikini this Summer wasn't enough, now CNN is reporting on new research that says exercise may also help prevent addiction to drugs or alcohol. Here's why:
Brown University took smokers to the gym three times a week and found adding the exercise to a smoking-cessation program doubled women's chances of successfully kicking the habit.

My boyfriend is 25 and has an addiction to both gambling and alcohol. He was recently caught gambling by the FBI and I've even had to loan him money to pay off his debts. He has two DUIs and is currently on parole.

An article in The Daily Mail earlier this week showcased Claire Catford, an author who struggles with love addiction. She traces the beginnings of her addiction back to her teenage years and describes the escalating desperation and depression that her addiction caused her — the worst of which landed her in a rehab clinic. The article quotes Catford's experience:
"I was with heroin and cocaine addicts in rehab," says Clare, "and I realized that our addictions were fundamentally the same.

Berlin is opening a walk-in stalker advice center, not for victims, but for the stalkers themselves! Just one year ago Germany made stalking — conduct directed at a specific person that would cause reasonable fear — illegal, and attached a penalty of up to 10 years.
But now Germans are looking to help the perpetrators.
