my dad is incredibly smart and very level headed.. he calms my (very) hot headed mother down...but he can get upset (and when he does you better watch out).

turns out my boyfriend is like my dad in alot of ways. he is very calm (to my craziness) and he is really intellegent. so i guess in a way that yeah, i ended up with someone like my dad.

altho my current boyfriend is the only one who mimics that

I do think it's somewhat true when it's said women tend to date men like their father. Not always though... my mom's dad is nothing like my dad. I love my dad, he's awesome... He ALWAYS can make you laugh and is very calm and always is the peacemaker between people. My boyfriend is a lot like that... he never wants to rock the boat... ,but that also has it's bad points too because sometimes you should get upset, haha.

I am with a man who has all of my dad's good traits and has the polar opposite traits of all the things I don't like about my dad. Don't get me wrong. I love my dad a lot and we've always been close, but there are still some little things about my dad that frustrate me to no end and those traits my boyfriend definitely doesn't have. That said, my boyfriend is still very much like my father because the traits that I don't like about my dad, while they may be big issues for me, are few and far between.

i find myself being attracted to men who have the same qualities as both of my parents. i don't think it's that whole idea of 'secretly every girl is in love with her father', it's more that those are the qualities that you've grown up around and are comfortable with, so you unconsciously look for them in other people you spend time with.
my father is a recovering alcoholic, but he wasn't sober when i was a child and it's amazingly frustrating to me how i always end up with the alcoholic boyfriends/crushes/flings! i will be attracted to someone and then find out a few months later that he's an alcoholic and it's SO frustrating!

from what i've observed, the whole "girls tend to marry [someone like] their father" is pretty true. and in my relationship, it is. i didn't realize my father and my boyfriend were so much alike until four years into my relationship with my boyfriend, after we've been living together for two years. it wasn't obviously apparent that they were alike... but the more i know my boyfriend, the more i see my father in him (all of which i consider to be bad traits).

i'm not too happy about it... i don't want to marry a guy who is like my father AT ALL.

I sure hope it doesn't turn out true for me, my dad's an ass so I would never conciously date someone like him.

Yeah somewhat...My boyfriend is smart, has a good sense of humor, patient and loving very much like my dad but thank god my mom didnt date someone like HER dad because he cheated on my grandmother and tha led to divorce...my parents are still together so thank god this isnt always true

It's definitely true for me! I always thought that if I ever end up with someone half as amazing as my dad, I'll be happy forever. My dad is silly, funny, smart, wicked, kind, friendly and considerate, but he's also very sure of himself and not afraid to stand up for something he believes is right. My boyfriend reminds me SO much of my dad. They're just completely decent, wonderful guys.

Their similarities are probably why they get on like a house on fire. We stayed with my dad on Christmas eve, and I was trying (in vain) to round them up to go to my grandmother's for dinner but they were running around the house pelting each other with nerf balls! These are two fully grown men having a nerf war in the house, cackling like maniacs. We were very late for dinner.

I love them both so much.

omg my mom is constantly telling me that my fiance is just like my father...and its odly sooo true. I think it happened this way with me because i am so close with my father, so looked for a guy with those qualities as well, without even noticing it.

i made sure to marry the man who is the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of my father =) thats a good thing btw, very good.

Not to be depressing, but I wish I knew! It would be interesting to see if I do go for men that resemble my dad, even if I only have a few memories of him from when I was younger.

My husband's much more like my mom than my dad. But the biggest thing they have in common is that they're talkative. My husband however is much more of a smartass than my mom is.

My boyfriend is soooo different from my dad. The only thing they have in common really is liking history. My boyfriend's geeky, shy, quiet and kind. My dad is loud and brash and the center of attention. My boyfriend is a democrat, my dad's a republican. My boyfriend has no problem showing his emotions, my dad only has 3 emotions (calm, happy, and angry).

He's not really like my mom, either. My mom is insane - in the good way! She's really friendly and talkative and outgoing.

Soooo yeah. I don't know. I'm strange.

I agree, I think it's somewhat true as well.
My dad is kind and warm hearted but he is also driven to always make life better for us and be the big boss of everything he does.
And I usually like guys who are more take charge and assertive and like to work hard for their money.

My boyfriend is like my mom, dad, and step dad all in one... plus his own stuff, of course. Why wouldn't I want some of their qualities? They are my favorite people in the world!

The guys who I'm attracted to are a bit like my father. Freud had it right, in my case at least... But not in every way, just some traits, like I like protective guys. Like my mom? I couldn't handle that. I love my mom but she drives me crazy.

I read somewhere once that girls are supposed to be subliminally attracted to guys who SMELL like their fathers.

So far I haven't dated anyone that's similar to my dad. I'm single now, so you see how that turned out. There's quite a few qualities I really admire about my dad: his family is the most important thing to him, he listens, level-headed, trust-worthy, helpful, won't turn his back on someone in need. I've always though my mom was really lucky to have him, and him her. They have a great marriage and I really look up to them. But yeah, I'd be lucky to find a guy who has 1/2 the amount of good traits my dad has. So far, I haven't met that person yet but hey, there's no rush.

I actually ended up with finding one like my grandfather!

The boy and my grandfather are both funny, inventive, forever learning, Jewish, loves gadgets, active, and can pick up any instrument (my grandpa is string and woodwind ones mainly) and play it; including being able to play a song or tune back after hearing it.

I absolutely love my grandpa and my boy and him got along grand when they met two years ago. I definitely couldn't have found a better boy.

I don't like my father (had a restraining order against him and haven't spoken to him in years) and incidently my love isn't like him one bit, thankfully!

My boyfriend has some similar qualities as my dad. They both have the same sense of humor (which I share with them too!) They are both very into politics (my dad works for C-Span and the night I met my bf he was watching C-Span!) They are both extremely logical and caring. Also, they have similar tastes in music and are both very interested in radio. SO yeah, I don't think I did this on purpose, but my dad is a great guy and my boyfriend is too!

Actually, my boyfriend is totally like my mom. Everything about him that irks me is EXACTLY like everything about HER that drives me nuts. His qualities, though - are just his! He's so special and so rare, I don't know anybody like him.

i have to agree as well... my boyfriend is much like my father, i mean not totally but there are traits that are similar in the two, like the activities they enjoy, its cute cuz they can actually hang out together without me around haha and have a great time! ... soo they have many things in common and the same sense of humor, i think when you grow up with someone, you often find a relationship that is some what similar, cuz its comfortable, feels like you already know it.

Agree... My husband is a lot like my father. Both are calm, level headed and laid back with wonderful senses of humor and great people skills. They enjoy the same hobbies, and are even the same size (my husband gets a lot of hand-me-down clothes & shoes... he loves it!) My father and I are extremely close, and I respect him a great deal, so it makes sense that they are similar!

My mom told me for years to give a geek a chance. I (like my mom) went through a bad boy phase (it just lasted like 10 years and thankfully didnt marry any of them) Then I finally gave a geek a chance- and what do ya know, I married him. I know he is a lot like my dad, I WANTED someone who was smart and responsible and reliable and loving and honest- and as an added bonus he can fix ANYTHING, which is something my dad has never been capable of

My husband and my dad are EXACTLY alike, which is something I didn't realize until well after I was married. But seeing as how my mom and I are exactly alike, it works well. My parents can both give me great input on how to handle things, as they've likely been through a very close experience.

My boyfriend and my dad are like twins! Same sense of humor, same interests, same attitude....they even look alike! Dark hair, athletic build, glasses. The most disturbing part is that on several occasions they have shown up to family events wearing the EXACT same outfit! A little strange the first time, but its happened 4 or 5 times now! Weird, but I love my dad and I love my boyfriend, so I guess it's a good thing

I havent dated anybody like my dad yet, but I know for sure that I'm gonna end up w/someone like him: nerdy, smart, and a car geek. LOL

Oh, I'm sooo guilty of this...my father has always been my role model, he is an amazing person, and in my eyes there's just not many men out there who are as good of a person as he is.

My husband reminds me so much of my father...he's a kind-hearted, caring person who goes out of his way to help people, just like my dad. They also have many other traits in common.

The whole Electra thing kinda creeps me out, but I'd have to say that I'm guilty. My dad is a smart, loud, sociable, no-nonsense kind of guy, who also has a very short fuse, and my boyfriend is very similar. The only difference is that my guy will admit when he's wrong (to me at least), but my father won't. Then again, I'll admit when I'm wrong to my bf but I won't to my dad.

The guys I've dated in the past weren't at all like my dad, and it really didn't work out too well (obviously, since I'm not with any of them anymore). I guess it also has to do with having the same values.
