Taking Charge of Your Fertility

Are you confused about your period and what happens during your cycle? Then check out an amazing book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It'll tell you everything you need to know (and then some).

This book provides an in-depth explanation of your menstrual cycle -- by understanding the monthly ebb and flow of your hormones, you'll know exactly when you ovulate and understand your chances of conceiving.

Here's an important tidbit I learned from the book - DAY #1 is the 1st day of your period. You can ovulate anywhere from DAY 10 to DAY 18 depending on your personal cycle - not everyone ovulates on DAY 14 because not everyone has the classic 28-day cycle. The myth of DAY 14 ovulation is a reason many women end up with unwanted pregnancies.

This book explains what certain period symptoms mean and it also shows you specific methods to increase your chances of choosing the gender of your baby, which I thought was very cool!

All women should own this book. It is kind of like an owner's manual for all who menstruate. It's really empowering to know the ins and outs of your cycle and how it affects your mood and your body.

You can order it for yourself, a sister, or a friend for $13 through Amazon.

Other options are Natural Family Planning manuals and classes.

I am going to be getting one of these books, my midwife told me about it. I'm not a fan of birth control, just bad experiences with it. Sad I have 2 beautiful little girls and we would like to add a son to the picture some day, so this would be a good thing to read. Just knowing more about your cycle and such is worth it!

Definitely interesting! I know hubby and I will be trying to start a family fairly shortly down the road, so this would be great to have on hand!

That's so weird, my co-workers and I were just discussing this at lunch today. Weird lunch time subject, I know! Eye-wink

I have heard of people who have used solely this method to NOT get pregnant (they were planning the spacing of their children), and it worked great for them.

I have heard of people who have used solely this method to get pregnant when they wanted to, and they did!

Beware though, not everyone ovulates between Day 10 and Day 18. If you have conceived before, try to find a pattern in when you conceived. I am now pregnant with my 3rd child, and each of my children were conceived immediately before or immediately after my period (so like... Day 28 - Day 5).

This is the greatest book! Anyone wanting to get pregnant or not get pregnant should read it. I learned so much about my cycles. It is very easy to read.

I pointed out in another fertility thread that the day 10-18 thing simply isn't true. I'm disapointed to see it in yet another story, worded in a way to make it sound like all women should fit into that category. We don't. You can ovulate on Day 45 following your schedule and still fall within a normal range.

This book has been wonderful for me. There is also a computer program that goes along with it at ovasoft.com. ITS WONDERFUL! My husband and I use it as our birth control because I am against the pill. I have been married for 8 months and not pregnant yet! (knock on wood) the program is so easy and for the firs time in my life, I feel in charge of my body. I highly recommend it if you arent comfortable with screwing with mother nature by putting pills in your body.
