Dear Poll: What's the Worst Part About Getting your Period?

If you're female, you suffer from the effects of Aunt Flow just like the rest of us. Although it's just a part of life, I think it is fair to say that every woman can empathize with constant complaining about the side effects of your period. Since every woman is different and no period is the same, what do you think is the worst part about getting your monthly visitor?

Bloating and not being able to wear white pants/skirts/bikini bottoms. I always wear all black underwear when I'm on my period to ensure that nothing gets grossly stained.

all of the above...and i would add breaking out to that list as well. i love proactiv, but it's no use during that time of the month!

Everything! Not only do I gross myself out, but the moodswings are absolutely exhausting, especially when you're trying to behave for the people around who don't deserve such a mess!

uh, there was no "i hate the nasty blood and when tampons leak and stain my cute panties" so i said all of the above. i don't really get bloated, moody, food cravings, or horrible cramps because i'm on the pill (so i'm already bloated from that 24/7). so yeah, the worst part is just cleaning up after tampons leak and panty liners shift. bastards.

I can say that seriously, I wouldn't even *mind* the horrible cramping and bloating I get if there weren't so many more disgusting aspects of getting my period, i.e. the blood. It makes you feel like the grossest being alive when you're constantly BLEEDING from down there!!! Sorry to be graphic, but you know it's true! And like others have said already, you have to plan your whole life around it ... what you wear, whether you can have a bath, your mood, the fatigue ... ACK!!!

I would have to say all of the above. A week before my period I begin to have really bad mood swings and I get depressed a lot. Then after that week comes the cramps, food cravings and bloating. Im an emotional wreck 2 weeks out of a month and I hate it. It's getting to the point where my boyfriend seriously thinks that I have PMDD. He is the one that usually tells me the day that Im going to start my period and most of the time hes right. No matter how hard I try to hide my emotions during that time of the month I always end up breaking down. My period drains me emotionally and physically. I would love to get rid of my period but Id also like to have kids in a couple of years. Smiling

Bloating and lower back ache. At night my temperature rises when I sleep and I end up being all hot and sweaty during the night, tossing and turning. The pill helps with the cramps and mood swings.

I said all of the above. But add fatigue and nasua (sp?) I have endometriosis so the cramps are terrible and sometimes so bad i can do nothing but lay down and be miserable and nothing helps. Also i crave M&M's like crazy and have to have them or freak out. My BIL was at the store with me one day and did not undertand why the small size bag at the check out wasn't big enough! I said you don't understand sometimes a girl just needs chocolate. Smiling

I have to say cramps. I've been on the pill for 6 years and it still can't stop my cramps. Sometimes they are so bad I can't even get out of bed! But luckily my period is very short (2-3 days) and I don't get moody or bloated usually.

I have a couple of questions comments

1-I chose mod swings because I can't control them with medicine or tampons. I want to cry constantly and am pissy without meaning to be.
2-Since when can you not take a bath when on your period? I have a pretty light flow becuase of the pill so I guess it doesn't matter with me
3-The pill is supposed to help cramps? I guess if I wasn't on it I would be incapacitated then, because I still get cramps pretty bad. I can deal with pain though, just not mood swings.
4-Thank God someone invented the tampon. I would shoot myself if I had to wear a pad and walk around the city, especially on these hot humid summer days!

i would have to say that i HATE it when someone says "Jeez, what's wrong? Are you on your period or something?"

That to me, is just such an insult, like i'm not allowed to have mood swings unless i'm on my period. It's even worse when my mother says it because it makes me want to scream (even if she is right)! Grrr....

Otherwise, i hate the bloating. and the mood swings which i am totally feeling cuz i am in the middle of PMS-ing.

Cramps! A good solution though is start taking two ibprofen (only ibprofen, not aspirin or Tylenol!) every eight hours, starting two days before your period starts. An er doc told me to try this and it doesn't get rid of them completely, but it definitely makes it easier to get through the word day.

The cramps! I get the worst cramps ever! The pain is sooo bad that i throw up. Nothing helps either, unless I take something that knocks me out completely. For my boyfriend, its the happiest time of the month though. While I'm screaming NOOO he's saying YES! YES! YES! Sticking out tongue

cravinsugar, for some people (i don't know if it's the majority or the minority, but i know it's a phenomenon) the pill lessens their cramps. for some people it probably makes them worse. it's just like how the pill makes some people noticeably bloated and others aren't affected. or some people get less acne, and some don't notice a difference. whenever i hear people complain about how horrible their side effects are on the pill, i just thank my lucky stars because i honestly have no horrible side effects, though my sister did.

hey katie, when i first went on the pill, i was sick for a solid month. i was tired, nauseaus, etc. the doc told me if i could stick it out a month, the side effects would go away, and they did. I am glad i stuck it out as i like the pill i am on-Yasmin. Thanks for that though

All of the above with the addition of hot flashes, leaks, and just the general feeling of grossness. I, too, hate that it dictates what I wear. If you see me in a baggy T-shirt and jeans, you know what time of the month it is!
