Do Tell: What Song Did You Dance to at Your Wedding?

Songs like "At Last," "Unforgettable," and "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" are popular first-dance songs at weddings, and while I'm all for using a traditional love song as the first dance, I think stepping it up a notch is also a fun way to kick off the celebration. Though I don't think I'd have the nerve to do something like the couple below, I would be the first one on my feet rooting them on! So in the spirit of wedding season, do tell: What song did you dance to at your wedding?

I like the thought of the couple rehearsing their dance. Would totally calm the pre wedding jitters!

I don't think I want dancing at my wedding. People doing the Electric Slide in formal wear look awful! And the first dance is just too emotional, too much pressure. I will already be zapped at that point. But I will still compile an awesome playlist for the reception!

When we got married, our husband had been together for seven years by that point (late high school, all through college, etc), and the one thing that had never changed in our relationship was our mutual love for Sister Hazel. So naturally, our first dance was Sister Hazel's "This Kind of Love", and it was perfect.

We danced to Nick Cave's "Into My Arms", then later on in the reception I sang Alicia Keyes' "No One" to my husband as a surprise!

My husband and I danced to "At Last"...boring, I know, but something that I knew I would not regret in the future. My dance with my father was to Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," which was perfect for us because of our love for classic rock and the lyrics were pretty great.

Our first dance was "In My Life" by the Beatles. We picked it because we love the lyrics and also because it's short and not too slow, so it doesn't get boring.

i wanted to dance to "somebody" by depeche mode too but the slow beat of the song made for some boring dancing. we ended up dancing to "by your side" by sade.

arms of a woman - by amos lee.

The main reason was because he says: "1000 miles from the place I was born, but when she wakes me, she takes me back home"

(He's from Ukraine and his family still lives there). Smiling

We danced to "Fade into you" by Mazzy Star! We love that song! "Our" song is really a Nine Inch Nail song and isn't really wedding appropriate so we picked the next one. Smiling

7kimba7, while "somebody" by DM is great, do you really want the lyrics

"Though my views may be wrong they may even be perverted" and
"though things like this make me sick, in a case like this Ill get away with it"

    playing at your wedding?

Our song is going to be "The Way I Am" by Ingrid Michaelson. I had no idea it was in an Old Navy commercial until after we decided, but I don't care.
It's short and sweet and we can dance the Rumba to it, the dance of luv. Smiling

Im sure most people will have never heard of this song, but it was perfect for us, "18th Floor Balcony" by Blue October- my friend says she is going to steal it when she gets married she loved it so much

I wanted to dance with my dad to "I Loved Her First" but the DJs couldnt find it, it was a little last minute trying to find it- like about to be introduced into the reception last minute

Ours was All You Need is Love--the Lynden David Hall version. We're not the sappy type, so we wanted something upbeat with a simple message. We took lessons for almost a year so it would be polished, but still natural.

We told the DJ not to play certain songs but my new Sister-In-Law BEGGED for the electric slide. The DJ asked and I said OK. It did give me a nice break though since I danced to EVERY OTHER song that night! Smiling

That video is awesome! That's what a reception is all about- having fun and making it about each other. And I guess it shows the two of them are on the same wavelength.

I don't know what I'd dance to with my guy- probably something not so romantic, but indie and that represents something we heard when we first met. But I know my stepdad and I will dance to George Clinton's "Atomic Dog" because it's one of our favorite songs, and because it just sort of sums up our relationship/friendship- guests be damned.

"Crystal Village" by Pete Yorn. His music is probably the reason we started talking, our first date, how we celebrated our first anniversary so his music has alot of meaning to us.

    gbrsgirl - LOVE IT!!

We're getting married in August and doing a 'cutaway' song too... Start off with something traditional and sappy like "What a Wonderful World", then cut into a traditional mariachi song that we started flirting to (I'm a dancer, he's a guitarist) called "La Negra". He was playing it the first night I met him, and I was like, "I can dance to that" and he said "Me too!" Of course he was just teasing, but once he saw me dance he joined my group and that was the first song we learned together... It's going to be great! Really kick off the dancing!

We ended the night with King Harvest's Dancing in the Moonlight because our dance floor was outside.

We were introducted doing the Ed Lover dance from Yo MTV Raps!

Awww, I love everybody's ideas! We are going to perform "Simple as it should be" By Tristan Prettyman (he on guitar, me on vocals) and then for our first dance I think we'll choose "The one who knows" by Dar Williams (she wrote that song for Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood - SO beautiful) and
    ps I LOVE Amos Lee!!

We're getting married next May, and the first dance is one of his few responsibilities (I gave almost everything to the wedding planner so I can just show up!!). He's chosen Georgia on my Mind by Ray Charles. It seems random, but he says it's because I'm from there so it means something to him. For those who worry about tempo, you can always have your band speed it up just a smidgen - no one'll ever know and you won't feel awkward... Smiling
