Would You Get Engaged on a Whim?

For those of you that aren't a fan of my favorite show The Bachelor, you'll be glad to know that it's over! But the rest of you were probably glued to the TV last night to see who Matt picked. Shayne was my favorite from the get go, but I have to say I was surprised to see him actually propose at the end. Most of the bachelors get on bended knee and offer the ring as a promise for the future, not necessarily asking for their hand in marriage. Now I'm all for taking a chance on love, but getting engaged on a whim just isn't my style — I only want to be engaged and married once so I'll wait however long it takes to make sure we're both ready to take such a step, but what about you? Would you ever just go for it and take a chance like Matt and Shayne are doing?

I have to say, I really hate popsugar shamelessly use every opportunity to embed links to their own pages in their own article. It just start to running in loops. Please, be honest and reference to the source.

Been there and done that. *The getting engaged thing and getting married thing in a pretty immediate time*
Still married, but I don't have to fight off 24 other women to get to my man Laughing out loud And my man never said in front of the camera (I don't know if this guy said it, but I've watched at least 2 bachelor's finales): that he's in love with 2 women at once Laughing out loud

Um yeah, I was 'tipped off' that the Shayne is the winner based on that promo with the girl's perfectly manicured tanned hand has the ring on.Then a few minutes before the show ended, all I had to do is take a glimpse of who had the 'hand.' Once the blondie's was shown I was like: She's the winner and let me change the channel to local news now Laughing out loud

PS. I haven't heard any successful bachelor's stories too, by the way. So I'm not surprised if things don't work out before they get married Sticking out tongue

People fall in love in a bunch of crazy ways, so if this it for them, best of luck! I hope they are happy.

    I would chance it, sure.

btw, ning, I think the writers do that so the readers will know what they are talking about....or if they want to read on about that subject. They don't need to plug their own website; if people see it then they are already on the site to begin with....

I'd do it, if I felt like it was going to work for me. I definitely wouldn't do it on tv show, but hey, whatever works for them.

oh please, this isn't going to last. Neither one of them are interested in finding true love--they just want to be on tv. I would never rush into getting engaged. It just doesn't make any sense. You still get to be together even if you aren't engaged or married. Get to know someone before you make such a big decision.

citizenkane - Right there with you. Its like salt on the would for me lately. As if the half a dozen weddings I have to go to this year aren't bad enough.

The only successful relationship was from The Bachelorette season, right? When the GUY had to CHASE the GIRL. Makes sense, kids?

Nah, I dont believe I could get married on a whim like that. Especially in the style that Matt and Shane did. First off, I wouldn't compete w/ 24 or 25 other women for one man and then have the man tell me over and over that he's in love with another woman (or women). And I'm actually supposed to stand there like a duffus and say, 'okay'? Nah, couldnt be me!!!! LOL
If a guy and I were dating and it was just the two of us, and our relationship was strong and we belive in the same things, etc, and he asked me to marry him (lets say after 3 months), I would consider it. It all depends on the guy and how the relationship is going at that time...

I dont think engaged necessarily means getting married right away.

I could get engaged on a whim way before I could get married on a whim that's for sure.

I got engaged 7 months after meeting my fiance. I have no idea if that qualifies as a whim or not, but we have been engaged for almost 3 years now!

We're definitely taking our time making our way to the alter you could say Eye-wink

If there's anything I've learned from Pam on The Office, engagements can last a long time. If I don't like the guy, I can wait a while and I can give him back the ring. It's not like I have to get married immediately.

Most of the wedding posts are sponsored by Macy's so I'm sure there's a very practical advertising/financial reason for all of the wedding posts.

I, too, get a little sick of it. It's not like salt in the wounds or whatever, it's more like, I'm not planning a wedding and neither are 90% (at least) of other people on the site, so many of the posts aren't germane to most of the posters.

I respond anyway, because let's face it, if I had something better to do I wouldn't be on here.

No, I would have to be with him for a minimum of a year (now that's taking a chance since my real minimum is 2yrs.)

I'd get engaged on a whim because you can be engaged for a LONG time before making it an official marriage.

I'm moving in with my boyfriend on a whim so...

I waited for over 5 years for my boyfriend to propose, only to have him call off our wedding 8 months later. So yeah, if it was right, I would definitely get engaged on whim! Obviously waiting as long as I did last time didn't work!!!!

I just don't think highly publicized engagements like those from reality (game) shows are likely to work out. And personally, I would never get engaged on a whim-- mostly because I don't make big decisions on whims (especially when it would involve my family).

I've always believed in engagements on a whim. I honestly used to believe a would engage a short time after knowing me. Kind of like love at first sight. However, I would never be on this show nor have any hope for its contestants. Everyone wants their 15 minutes, and this show is the breeding ground for leeches. EWW!
