Things You Forget When You're in a Relationship

Last week I reminded all the single girls out there that while being in a relationship is great, so is being single! On the flip side, often even when we wouldn't change anything about our happy relationships, we can still feel nostalgic for the excitement of our single days. But I’ve got another list to remind the taken ladies just how absolutely fabulous a great relationship is. To see them, read more

  • Going out on the weekend gets old, fast. It's way more glamorous to make a night out on the town an every once and a while occasion.
  • There’s a big difference between being boring and being stable. And not having a bunch of dramatic stories to share on girls' night doesn’t make you boring!
  • You don't have to bother washing your hair, putting on make-up, or shaving your legs every day and there's still at least one guy out there that thinks you're the most beautiful thing he's ever seen.
  • A perfect first kiss is amazing, but a perfect 500th kiss is better.
  • All that excitement and energy that comes with dating also comes with a lot of uncomfortable moments and insecurities.
  • When you're out with your friends, you may have to bail early and go home alone, but you’ll have someone to talk to, vent to, laugh with, and just sleep next to when you get there.

The comfort that comes from being in a happy relationship truly is unmatched, but if I'm leaving out something, please share it below!

I agree with the last part of this statement, but not the first:

"You don't have to bother washing your hair, putting on make-up, or shaving your legs every day and there's still at least one guy out there that thinks you're the most beautiful thing he's ever seen."

I actually think that you have to be more mindful of that stuff since you see the person all the time. If you're single, you probably only have to shave if you're going out and think you might hookup or you're going on a date. In a relationship you kinda have to do it for a lazy Tuesday night. My fiance enjoys shaved legs and washed hair. Makeup he could do without.

When he goes on a business trip, I don't shave my legs pretty much at all! It's such freedom. But it is nice that when I whine to him that I've gained some weight, he'll say it's not true and that I'm beautiful.

I don't let my BF touch my legs if I haven't shaved. I think it's gross and I feel like I've deprived him somehow if I don't shave them.

Seriously, I hate when I see people let themselves go when they're in a relationship. They think because they have a bf they can stop putting so much effort into their appearance, but how would you feel if your boyfriend did that? I love looking cute for my boy and that includes having silky smooth legs, smelling good, and dressing nice.

I hated dating. there was always the' okay, here we go, what new freak am i going to meet now?' i love being in something stable, the security, a sense of belonging to someone however temporary.besides its better making up after a fight than with your girlfriends.

Yep, stable doesn't mean boring! Oh, and I find myself shaving A LOT more than I did when I was single, I feel gross if I haven't shaved, and since he likes to touch me, it's a necessity!

My favorite thing is being so comfortable with him. When you just start dating someone there is the whole 'should I call him or wait on him to call me...' or 'I wonder if I think this is more than what he thinks it is'....I hated all of those questions!!!

I like this little series you're doing!

I agree , altho my fiance and I still go out most nights of the week, and I still shave & shampoo every day of my life (always have, even before him) and I dress up & do makeup even for our staying in nights.

What can I say, I just hate to 'get comfortable' Sticking out tongue

Also, I would def consider myself boring tho! I never have any interesting stories to share. If I do, it concerns our dogs. How boring is that! LOL Laughing out loud

When I was single, I used to have the best stories. Sigh.

kia, me too! It makes me happy and all my single friends think I'm insane for feeling that way

Also, I find that I shave my legs more now that I'm in a relationship too! I feel gross if I don't and I don't want him to have to deal with unshaven legs. He jokingly made a comment one time about it and ever since I don't think I've gone more than 2 or 3 days without doing it! lol it's worth it though Smiling

I loved being single and when I started dating my fiance I never thought that I would never be single again. As much as I loved it though, nothing compares to how wonderful our relationship is. I flirt a little when I go out and every once in a while I wish I could be single and take it further. But that feeling completely goes away when I see my guy again. I just feel so at home with him that no fleeting thrill would ever be worth giving it up. I also think it's much more fun to get all gussied up for him because he appreciates it much more than any random guy at a bar would!

I was just today sitting all alone in a biology lecture (I am a CS master student, so I don't know the bio freshmen) and thinking how great it was that I didn't feel lonely because I knew I was going home to my boyfriend in a few hours.

And the shaving and washing hair thing...I don't think it is about letting yourself go...we all want to feel beautiful and that's difficult with dirty hair and scratchy legs...but it's good to know that sometimes, when I don't have time or energy to shave, my man is still going to think I look gorgeous...and the same holds for his facial hair Eye-wink

i've noticed that, while i don't shave my legs every single day (and never have), i don't wear my pajamas during the day as much around my fiance. he even mentioned that today was the first time he'd seen me in wearing pajamas for clothes in about a year!

I love being in a relationship. Now that I'm married it's so much better than all the nagging does he really like me or am I crazy feelings you get when dating. Maybe I'm weird but I don't ever wish I was single. I'm not a prude or a saint but other guys really don't interest me at all and no one makes me more comfortable than my husband. He's the one person in the world that I can lean on and cry to and he doesn't care if my hair sticks straight up in the morning. I do try to look cute for him but it's nice to know that even when I'm really sick or dog tired or just not feeling it some days he thinks I'm so awesome and beautiful. I think that's what love is all about

I love being in a relationship. I hate dating and not knowing what the 'status' is, where things are going and things I should or shouldn't do. I love knowing that I always have plans for the weekend, even if it is just sitting and watching movies all night!

I never stop shaving my leges or putting on makeup when I'm in a relationship. In fact, I make myself look even better than when I'm single.

    * Having somebody who isn't likely to bail on you for social stuff. My friends bail on me so much because they think it's acceptable but my boyfriend never would.

    * Being there for somebody else.

I never let myself go either. I still go to the gym and dress nicely.

    Awww, so true.

But ohhh man. I am so guilty of not shaving my legs as often as I probably should. I always wear long pants. Plus, my boyfriend is French/Italian (aka - sooo hairy), so hair doesn't phase him *at all*. I do always wash my hair and put makeup on, though (just because I feel grossss if I don't).

    Sun_Sun beat me to it.

There's nothing like waking up in the arms of someone you love- you're wrapped up in that warm feeling of security and then it's followed by a kiss on the top of your head when they wake up. That's what I miss.

I agree the most with the 500th kiss thing, you always have someone to kiss and hug. I completely disagree with the going out and bailing on friends early...we still go out on weekends and hang out with our friends til the end of the night just as much. I think it is important to not become a homebody unless that is naturally your personality type (neither of us are)

The fact that he 'gets' me. He's my best friend, and we all our little inside jokes that no one else gets, but only the two of us end up cracking up.

And this might be weird, but who knew that missing someone so much, could feel that good...I dunno maybe I'm weird.

But, to me dating is way overated.. it's like, I'm already an introvert, so I'm very quiet and anxious around new people--the uncomfortable silences, the whole first date-20 questions thing--Blech!

WTF?? I agree with many posters here -- I still maintain myself even though my husband and I have been together for over ten years. I still go to the gym, too. I guess I do all that FOR ME, not for him. I like to look after myself. My husband appreciates it, too.

He recently admitted that after all these years, I still turn his head when I walk into a room. It's nice to hear, given how long we've been together.

yeah, my ex found our stability as "boring." He felt he was too young to be that stable I guess.
