Where Do You Stand? Using the Term "Bang"

It makes me so mad when I overhear guys use the word bang in reference to sex. I mean, how gross and rude! I always thought it was a guy thing, but just recently, a girlfriend and I were at a bar and when she saw a hot guy ordering a drink, I almost dropped my Cosmo when she said, "I'd love to bang that guy."

Clearly, I'm just not a fan of that term. I prefer to use the sweet phrase "make love," and I'll even take "do it" over banged. It just makes sex seem so impersonal and forceful, but what do you think about the B word? Am I being too old-fashioned or are you against it, too?

I think "bang" is when you're considering sex to be impersonal and just, well, sex. There would be no feelings involved because, usually, when you "bang" a guy you're just attracted to him physically. At least, that's my take on it. It's like when they use sex versus "make love" in shows like Sex and the City. There's a difference.

If you're hooking up with a random guy, you're not going to make love to them since there is no love to be made. I agree with the above comments that it's a good word to use in referrence to impersonal sex.

Yeah, if you are picking up a guy at the bar and taking him home, you are not "making love" to him. I don't use the word "bang" though--I guess for the reasons you mention.

I agree with the ladies who said that using the term "bang" is for someone who you have no intentions of actually having a relationship with. I also think it tends to be a little on the immature side. But Im the kind of person who just says what Im talking about and dont feel the need to come up with little pet words. If I want to have sex with my BF, I just say "can we have sex now?" Or I just start teasing him. Eye-wink

the two euphemisms i use are "hit that" and "tap that", which seems a small step from "Bang".
i think of making love as emotional thing, banging as a physical thing. i think it all depends on the type of sex you're thinking of.

everyone has a word for sex. i don't use bang . . .i just never said that. it doesn't bother me when i hear others say it.

"making love" is reserve for when you're with someone special for the first time, or your wedding night.

i mean come on, even your long term (3 years) boyfriend and you wouldn't say, "hey babe. you wanna make love???". and if you do say it casually, that's corney as hell . . . but whatever works.

bang means just that, BANG. rough, down and dirty sex. no fillers, just 100% to the point.

but it's funny when i hear guys use it, because it's probably more like they tried to keep from bustin' a n*t early. guys try too hard to sound cool.

I use the word bang all the time i hate the term making love. Sounds silly like it should be used in a movie or romance novel. Now the term "boink" drives me crazy!

When people use the word "bang," I think of raw, animalistic sex, which COULD be with someone you're in a romantic relationship with or not.

One term I don't like is "making love," because it makes it seem like there was no love there to begin with, and you need sex to make it happen. I don't know. I just use "have sex" and similar things. I'm not that creative.

BANG! I like it, it's funny. Tap that ass...I hate that term. Gr.

I don't see anything wrong with saying 'making love' but it's not something I'd say on a regular basis. I also don't see anything wrong with using the term 'f*cking' but there's a time and place for everything. I wouldn't use either term seriously, jokingly..sure.

I find the word "banging" quite funny. I personally don't have a problem with it. I think guys just use the word when the hook up with somebody or just doing someone just for the hell of it. If the person they are having sex with, is someone they really care about, they would use another word instead of banging.

I don't mind bang, but I hate the term "making love." I mean, seriously? Making love? Gag me. Forget a one night stand, I wouldn't even use that term to describe sex with my husband.

I agree with the gag factor of "making love," especially to a dude you don't even know!

I don't mind bang. I used to say "rail" sometimes. Not even sure where that came from.

Like, "yeah, we railed last night."

I don't think too much about this stuff, really. Some terms do rub me the wrong way but they don't really shock me.

i like to use the word sex or f*ck. sex when talking about wanting it and f*ck when we are "doing it". it also depends on the other person you are talking to. i had a bf that did not like to say the work "sex" um...yeah, we are not together anymore.

bang is less offensive than f**k. I don't have a problem with words that people use to refer to sex though. What I do have a problem with are words that people use to refer to "privates" like "va-jay-jay"...it sounds stupid, everytime I hear someone say that word, I think they sound like a three-year-old learning about "private parts" (that one bugs me too, but I'm not trying to be offensive to others). Since when was it offensive to just say "vagina"? Sorry, rant over.

Also, using the word "bang" can keep a conversation much more private to a passer-by. For example, "I got more bang for my buck than I had anticipated..." Bad example, sorry.

In my opinion bang is a loud noise that a gun or a door makes. If you're going to be having sex with a guy and then talking about it, or if you are sexually attracted to a guy, why not say so using the word sex?? Come on people, we're not in high school anymore.

my bf of 3 yrs. loves to say (rather enthusiastically),
'i wanna bang you hard!' lol. sounds passionate and rough, which is great when the mood strikes. other fun ones: 'gettin' down to bid-ness' and 'ride the nasty wagon'. we always laugh. i don't find 'bang' at all offensive coming from my partner. in the company of friends and/or random guys, i'd blush. weird, but true.

I use "bang" because I think it's cute at times. It's not the only word my boyfriend and I use for sex, but "bang" allows for subtle immaturity, which we enjoy.

Now that it's been brought up, maybe I will refer to it as "exclamation point". Though what will end up happening is that ! means "not", so we will end up saying "wanna not?" and giggling like school children.

"Making love" just seems... weird. Why do you need to make something that is already there? Shouldn't you be expressing it, and not making it come about?

This is probably just because I'm old, but I've never cared for "bang" much. In my older, wilder (i.e. pre-married) days, I just usually thought of it in terms of having sex, I didn't have any special terms I used for it, or if I was talking to a friend about it, it was the basic "I slept with him" kinda thing.

With my husband, we usually refer to it as "making love" - but I've never seen it as trying to create something that isn't there - I've always thought of it as making MORE of what we've already got. Sometimes he likes to get kind of "down and dirty" and will use rougher terms, which will make me laugh, but is less likely to get me in the mood than something less crude.

And for the record, I don't use these terms much with my current boyfriend, & it never really crosses my mind.

I think of Bang more in the get down and dirty sense; just hardcore sex with no emotional entanglements. But I agree with those who can't get 'making love' to roll off the tongue. That just does NOT work in my dialogue.

I think the problem is that sex has become so impersonal and that people have become so classless. The problem was not that the girl said "bang," the problem was that she actually said out loud that she wants to have sex with someone. To me, that is crude and tacky. I have no problem talking about sex, but I just think it it something special between one man and woman who have made a loving commitment to only love and have sex with each other in marriage. Call me old-fashioned, conservative, "crazy-religious," naive, homophobic, whatever, I believe that and stand for my beliefs. The world would be a much better place if people took love and sex seriously.
