Women's Common Complaint: He Falls Asleep Right After Sex

You just shared the most beautiful, mind-blowing experience with your man. Afterwards, you want to stay up and chat about your love, but he's all about rolling over and going right to sleep. So what gives?

Now while I realize not all men react this way, generally speaking, it's more common for guys to get snoozy after sex. But don't get mad at your man — they aren't hitting the pillows because they want to avoid talking to you; in fact, there are many reasons why men fall asleep after sex. Since most people do the deed when they cuddle up in bed at night, they're tired to begin with, so after sex, sleeping is the next logical response. Another reason is that after reaching orgasm, both men and women release a cocktail of chemicals such as oxytocin and vasopressin, which have drowsy effects. Ironically, they seem to be secreted in equal amounts in men and women, but we all know who orgasms more frequently! Sex can also be really active, so if your guy is doing a lot of the work, then afterwards he could be physically exhausted.

So how can you still get in a little cuddling and chatting before bedtime? To find out read more.

  • If you tend to get busy right before bed, try to hit the sheets an hour earlier. That way you'll have time for the action and time to chat before lights out.
  • Make a deal with him. Tell him how much it would mean to you if you could stay up for a bit cuddling and chatting. Agree on an amount of time (10 minutes perhaps) so you get your post-sex time in and he knows afterwards you'll let him go to bed without being upset.

I got a cuddler too. If it is late I try to encourage him to go to sleep so that I can get some shut eye too.

Maybe we've been together too long....cuddling is just not on my list of priorities. I think we both fall asleep afterwards. I don't see anything wrong with that.

ahahahaha!!!! Chat about our love?!? Wow, that's hilarious. I'd rather sleep, too. If not, I'll get up and do something (if it's the morning/afternoon), but there is no way I would try to initiate a conversation about our love...ever, but especially not after sex.

Nope, there's nothing wrong with that, Linb. My boyfriend and I have been together for 4 and a half years and cuddling is just not a high priority. It doesn't mean he doesn't love me any less, it just means we're both tired and we value our sleep! Even if we didn't have sex, my "chatting about love" would put him to sleep. He has trouble sleeping, maybe I'll try that tonight... Eye-wink

I didn't know this was a popular women's complaint. I am the one who usually wants to go right to sleep and he is the one who usually wants to cuddle.

I either fall asleep right away or I'm suddenly full of energy and hungry. I've got a cuddler too and I drive him crazy because that's usually the last thing I want to do!

Heheh it's funny how all the women here seem to be ok with sleep... That's what happens with stereotypes (women want to talk & analyze), they overgeneralize too much. My boyfriend and I usually go both to sleep after sex. We are usually tired to begin with and it just makes sense. Sometimes we cuddle and talk about the amazing sex we just had Eye-wink, but it's usually just a couple of minutes.

My boyfriend and I usually tell each other while having sex. Not in a cheesy, movie scene way, but certain things just come out in the heat of the moment. Then we fall asleep. Sticking out tongue

We talk while we are having sex"about how much we love eachother, and sometimes the dirty talk slips out" But after mind blowing sex I'm extremely tired so we both fall asleep quick

Am I the only one who finds "but we all know who orgasms more frequently!" just a little bit pedantic? Every relationship is different so, no, we don't really know.

I have never understood why this is a bad thing. You just had great sex, and frankly, if the sex is lousy, you CAN'T fall asleep afterwards, so I'll take the snoring guy anytime. And I'm usually snoring right there next to him.

    Marci - I agree!

Hubby & I are both snoozers. We might fall asleep holding hands, but neither of us are cuddlers. I'm perfectly happy with that. Smiling

My guy? He wants me to rub his legs and back when I just want to get to sleep. It can get very annoying, but I have to thank him somehow for the wonderful time he gave me. Smiling

I find the thread of comments hilarious that all you ladies are like, "chat? What? I want to sleep too!" when that's the opposite of the stereotype! I love it! I like to fall right to sleep after sex too. Sometimes we'll cuddle for a couple minutes and say "I love you" but that's the extent of the chatting. And I like it that way. I thought that was what everyone did until my ex told me once, "I love that you fall to sleep right away like me! All my guy friends complain that their girlfriends always want to stay up talking after sex."
